’Twas the Night Before Sidmas

‘Twas the night before Sidmas, and all through the day
Not a member was stirring, not even to play!
Jo was out shoppin’, no doubt for the Horde
While Bridgid and Jack were anything but bored.
And I at my laptop, wonderin’ what next to write
Some story ‘bout Ben maybe, or one with Bud White?
Then there on my doorstep there came such a noise
I raced to find out if it was one of my boys!
I undid the lock and flung open the door
in hopes that dear Santa was more than just lore.
And what to my wondering eyes should appear?
But a man dressed in purple sittin’ atop a reindeer.
He jumped onto my porch and flashed me a grin,
Then said, “Hello, sweetheart! Won’t you let me come in?”
I knew that I shouldn’t- I should have just hid-
I’d heard stories of him, the one they call Sid.
But his eyes were both twinklin’, and I was feeling quite bold
So I stepped out of his way, and in he did stroll.
A large purple bag was flung over his back
It moaned and it wiggled, and then it said, “Ack!”
With a wink of his eye and the slight of a smile
He untied his load as he hummed all the while.
Then onto my floor, out tumbled two men,
One dressed as a general and the one they call Ben.
Then Sid pulled out a list and tilted his head
He turned on the men, and here’s what he said:
“Out Max! Out Ben! You’ve been naughty, not nice!
I warned you this would happen - not once, but now twice!”
Then he picked them each up and walked into the hall
With a wave of his hand, stuffed each man in a ball.
He giggled and danced ‘round the room with such glee
Then took each of the balls and hung them up on my tree!

“Let that be a lesson, for committing such crime
I’m both your judge and your jury, and now you’ll do time.
You’ll hang on this tree-top, you’ll stay here each day
While I have my fun and continue to play.”
Then Sid took me aside and he giggled once more
He licked at my cheek then made his way out the door.
I watched as he left, and I thought heard him say,
“Merry Sidmas to all! And to me a fun day!”
