Wade Wedding – Reception RR

Lucy and Andy were finally ready after the wedding delay. The hots were still hot and the colds still cold. They worked well together like the team they were. After all the food was set out Andy moved the van and then moved it back.

"Lucy...the cake is still in the van."
"Oh no Andy you didn't....."
Andy shrugged his shoulders and opened the back of the van. Thankfully only one side of the cake hit the cardboard box it was sitting in and she went to work once again repairing the Wade wedding cake.

No matter how busy Lucy was, it didn't phase Brook one little bit. As everyone headed for the reception area, she spotted her auntie Lucy first.

Breaking away from her mom and dad , she ran up to where Lucy was working on the cake and held out the stuffed bulldog puppy.

"Wucy....here!"

Steve caught up with the child first and he smiled at Lucy. "Sorry but for some reason she insisted on bringing it for you.  I have no idea why but ...you know kids. By the way this looks like one heck of a spread. nice work. Can I help you with anything? Millie is out of it and I think she'll be sitting down for most of the reception."

"Oh precious baby thank you," Lucy said taking the dog and holding it against her cheek, "He can ride right here," she said smiling at Brook and sticking the dog in her white jacket pocket.

"Hmm Steve think Millie is going to make it through the reception? I've got everything put out and Andy is arranging the drinks table, thanks Steve you better keep an eye on Millie," Lucy was looking toward Millie hunched over in a chair.

"I hope she makes it. She's not due for a little bit but there is something different going on. We have an appointment with the obstetrician in Coffs on Monday."

Brook raised her arms for Lucy to pick her up but Steve intercepted her. "Auntie Lucy is busy right now, baby." He winked and smiled at Lucy as he scooped the kid up to cradle her.

"I wanna cake!" she called as she somehow managed to get some icing off of broad spatula Lucy used to fix the wedding cake.

"I think I better get her out of your hair. I'll take some water over for Millie. You will let me know if there is anything I can help you with, right?"

"Sure Steve, we're okay for now and Steve...should something be happening with Millie you know you can leave Brookie with us?"

Having been held up by all the well-wishers--the men slapping Ben on the back and congratulating him, the women hugging Liana and wiping their eyes with tissues and handkerchiefs--the bride and groom had just managed to round the corner of the church and lay eyes on the reception.

"It's beautiful," Liana breathed, taking in everything, but especially the wedding cake, as she still held onto Ben's hand.

Toni finally made her way out of the church and was on tip toes looking for Richie who surprised her by coming up behind her and slipping his hands on her waist. "Oh...Richie there you are...wasn't it great I'm so glad it turned out good for them."
"It was a nice wedding Toni now lets go find a drink...weddings make me thirsty."

Dan was standing alone, watching the celebration going on around him in silence. He was still amazed that Ben Wade had actually managed to pull this off. At the same time, he had found himself watching Libby Tyler talking to someone else across the church lawn.

Finally, pulling his eyes away from Libby for a moment, Dan saw a couple standing near, looking as though they weren't sure whether to join the party. Wracking his brain, trying to remember their names, he finally remembered that the man was Dr. Wigand. Jeff Wigand.

Walking up to them, Dan put out his hand. "Dr. Wigand. How nice to see you here. Don't know if you remember me, but I'm Dan Evans, Mr. Wade's best man. And who's this beautiful lady with you?"

"Dan Evans, yes I remember you.  It's good to have another opportunity to talk with you," Jeffrey answered, accepting Dan's hand.  "Please, call me Jeffrey."  Looking down, he smiled as his arm wrapped tighter around Meggie's waist.

"Meggie, Meggie Ward.  It's good to see you again, Mr. Evans."   Meggie shook Dan's hand, noting the firm, yet gentle touch.  "Actually, I'll be seeing you and Mr. Wade in the near future, when it's convenient of course.  I'm looking to buy my first horse."  Her eyes lit up as the words came enthusiastically from her mouth.

Dan could see how excited she was at the thought.  Well, Ben'll surely be glad to help you out there, Miss Ward.  Nothing that man loves better than horses!  Except for his wife, of course."

Dan's eyes moved expectantly to Jeffrey.  "And how about you, Dr. Wigand?  You looking to buy one for yourself, too?

Jeffrey chuckled.  "No, I don't believe this old body could handle it.  But I know how eager Meggie is to own her own horse.  Ever since she was a little girl."

Meggie looked at Jeffrey, a slight sadness filling her eyes.  Returning her focus back to Dan, she smiled.  "Thank you, Mr. Evans.  Yes, I've heard how much Ben loves horses and cares for them.  I'm looking for a black mare or stallion.  Maybe when Ben and Liana get back from their honeymoon, we can work something out."  She paused before continuing with a wry sense of humor in her voice.  "Of course, it would help if one knows how to ride first, I guess.  Haven't been on a horse since...well, do pony rides at the zoo count?" she laughed.

"A little bit, I guess."   Dan laughed along with her.  "But if that's the problem, Ben can fix you up there too.  Or maybe Mr. Meridius.  He has the riding academy here in town."

"That sounds great.  I'll keep that in mind.  Of course, Mr. Wade will be busy for awhile with his new bride."  Meggie glanced over Dan's shoulder where she could see Ben and Liana greeting guests.  "It was a very beautiful ceremony.  Liana looks absolutely stunning...I just love the fine detail work and style in her wedding gown.  And the yellow roses, too."

"And Ben looks very nice, also," Jeffrey added.  "I don't think I've seen a happier couple.  Dan, it must be quite an experience and privilege to work with a good man like Ben."

For a moment Dan was silent, not knowing quite how to answer.  "Oh, it's an experience all right," he finally said.  "Ben's always got so much going on business-wise that it can be tough to keep up with him at times."

"And yes, Liana does look beautiful," he went on, answering Meggie.  As he talked, he caught sight of Libby again among the guests.  She looked beautiful too.  And who was that man she was talking with at the moment?

Tearing himself away, he looked back to Jeffrey and Meggie.  "I was a little surprised that Ben actually found time to get married."

"Well, it definitely looks like you two are doing a fine job with the ranch," Jeffrey responded.  He noticed Dan looking at a particular woman talking with another guest.

"Well, now they have the rest of their lives to share with each other.  He does make her smile.  The adoration in both of their eyes is lovely to behold."  Meggie added, also noticing Dan gazing at the beautiful woman.

"Dan, it was good meeting you again and thanks for taking the time to chat with us," Jeffrey said, extending his hand to Dan and patting him on the back.  He thought the man might want to be with his lovely wedding date, also.

Meggie leaned forward and gave Dan a gentle hug.  "Yes, thank you Dan.  I look forward to seeing you and Ben later about that horse."

Bud had gone for something to drink for he and Marie. When he returned she'd piled a plate full of food for him.

"Who the hell is eating all that?"

"You are. Don't try to suddenly be acting dainty on me, Bud White. You said you were so hungry you could eat a horse."

Bud nearly aspirated on the beer he'd taken a swig of. He coughed to clear his throat. "That's a first, Hon. Nobody's ever called me dainty before."

Marie patted his bulging bicep. "Oh, I don't know. You're wasting away so much, you could be termed, dainty Bud." She saw the couple standing a few feet from them and smiled.

"Hello. My name's Marie White. This is my husband, Bud We haven't met before.

Bud rose to his feet to greet them. Problem was he'd just stuffed a bite full of food in his mouth. Marie had great fucking timing. Bud had met the guy before. Wigand.

"Hello!  It's very nice to finally meet you both," Meggie exclaimed with a smile.  "I'm Meggie Ward and this," she paused, turning back to get Jeffrey's attention, "is Jeffrey Wigand."

Jeffrey turned his head and saw the couple standing before him.  "Hello.  It's a pleasure," he said, offering his hand to Bud before accepting Marie's.  Quietly, he said, "Bud, I just wanted to commend you and the department on handling things here in the Glen community."

Meggie stiffened, thinking of Marce's funeral and Ahnna.  But this was a day to be joyous.  She noticed Bud's plate loaded with food, and chuckled.  "Food is delicious, isn't it?  Jeffrey has been complaining of hunger since we've arrived, and I told him I wanted to congratulate the bride and groom first before eating."

Bud quickly swallowed his mouthful of food and greeted the couple appropriately. He saw the young woman's reaction to Wigand's comment. The murder was still on people's minds despite the happiness of this day. The safety of the Glen had been stripped away for many. People always needed to be careful, but Bud hoped they'd be able to restore peace and calm in the community. He wanted to help Biebe and Siobhan do that. He still believed in 'to protect and to serve.'

"Thank you, Dr. Wigand." Bud remembered his title but not what kind of doctor the man was.

"People need to feel at ease again in the Glen."

He nodded at the woman, Meggie. "The food is very good. Marie is trying to load me up with food so I have the energy to dance with her for most of the night." A smile tugged at Bud's lips. He waited...knew it was coming.

"I was not, Bud White," she said indignantly. "Though I do rather like the idea of us dancing the night away. So eat up." She giggled and gave him a sly look.

"Do you and Jeffrey like to dance, Meggie?" Marie thought dancing was one of the most wonderful things to do with your man. She knew it was wonderful to be wrapped up in Bud's arms as they swayed to music.

"Jeffrey, please.  I don't use the term 'doctor' much anymore," he said laughing.  "Too stuffy sounding, as I've been told."

"I've never called you...'stuffy'," Meggie responded, glancing up at Jeffrey.  He had an ornery grin on his face.

Jeffrey simply laughed and took hold of Meggie's hand.  "No, my darling, you haven't."  He turned back to Bud and Marie, seeing another happy and in love Glen couple.  Perhaps this was his chance to start all over again, here, and with Meggie.

"Officer White, thank you.  And that goes for the other officers, too."  Meggie commented, admiring the strength, courage, and honesty which defined him and made him one of the "good guys."  She blushed slightly at the mention of dancing.  "Dancing...not too good at, I'm afraid.  Step on toes more than anything," she laughed.  "Jeffrey has the bruises to prove it."

"Oh, but," Jeffrey said in a serious tone, "we are working on that, aren't we?"  He suddenly reached for Meggie's hand and gave her a twirl.  A giggle escaped from her mouth.

"Okay.  I think someone wants to dance now.  But maybe we'll watch you two, first."  Meggie smiled back at Marie, noting the happiness that glowed from her face as she teased Bud about eating the food on his tray for energy.

"Okay, Jeffrey. And call me, Bud. Join us in eating some of this great food. Then the dance floor is next." Bud smiled and indicated the empty chairs across from them. He set his plate down on the table. He was having a beer to drink while Marie had a glass of champagne.

Marie grinned at Meggie. "You two look ready to dance to me. I liked that little twirl. Very nice." She winked and popped a sweet strawberry into her mouth.

"And there isn't much more romantic than swaying slowly to a soft romantic song in the arms of the man you love. Especially in the moonlight Though I must admit that mood can be ruined a bit if you skewer your man with sharp heel into the top of his foot." She giggled and leaned closer to Meggie.

"If you're worried about stepping on Jeffrey's feet while you're still learning to follow his lead just slip your shoes off before you both dance, Meggie. You won't hurt his feet if you step on his shoes accidently."

"Thank you, we accept".  Jeffrey eagerly headed off to the food table, where he quickly loaded up with two plates, one for himself and for Meggie.  He came back, sitting down next to Meggie and across from Bud and Marie.  Meggie noticed the beer he had carefully managed to carry despite holding two plates, and she started to frown.

"Don't worry...I'm not drinking like I used to, not anymore, not since I have you," he said trying to reassure her.  He set everything down before cupping her face with his hand, and leaning down to kiss her tenderly.

"I love you," she answered.  Blushing after their brief intimate display of feelings, Meggie laughed.  "Marie has told me how I can save your feet from further pain.  I just need to take my shoes off when dancing with you."

"Hmm, I like the sound of that," Jeffrey answered.  "We'll have to try that out...later."

Meggie's eyes lit up and when she turned back to Marie, she smiled even more as she whispered "thank you."   She looked down at her plate, realizing just now how hungry she was.  "After I eat all this, we'll see how well I can dance,"  she chuckled.

"Mmm, good," Jeffrey mumbled, after taking a bite of food.  "I can't wait to twirl you around some more."  His comment caused both couples to laugh.

Marie looked at them conspiratorially. "I can see you two have much to learn about the subtle art of dancing post food gorging." She kept a completely serious face.

"My husband can back me up on this technique for success." Bud nodded gravely in agreement.

"You start out with holding on to one another and swaying. Slowly swaying, nothing too violent to jolt the stomach."

"Then finally as the food begins to digest, you loosen up and start some faster moves. You might not be ready to jitterbug yet, perhaps a foxtrot."

"And after an appropriate amount of time when you're able to breath and dance without groaning, you work in that twirl the two of you were practicing."

Bud fought to stop the little smile that tugged at his lips. He nodded in agreement with Marie. She was a lot more outgoing than he was in social situations like this. He tended to listen and observe more while she was in the thick of things.

"Hon, you're so full of sh.." Marie covered his mouth quickly.

"Yes, I am very knowledgeable on this subject, Bud. Thank you for acknowledging my expertise." She popped a shrimp into her mouth and smiled at Meggie and Jeffrey.

Jeffrey burst out laughing at Bud's response and Marie's sense of humor.  He really enjoyed their company and thought again how good it felt to be around other couples who showed their love and didn't hide it.  He remembered when he was married to Liane, how at times, he had pushed her away and kept to himself.  And how indifferent and cold she could be at times.  But the couples he had been mingling with tonight clearly expressed their love and appreciation towards their significant other.

Meggie also chuckled, covering her mouth filled with food.  Swallowing, she looked at Jeffrey, and then back at Marie and Bud, smiling.  "You both must be excellent dancers."  She, too, enjoyed the humor and warmth these two shared between each other.  Pushing her plate away and wiping her mouth, Meggie looked at Jeffrey.  "Well, you ready to try dancing 101 tonight?"

He grinned.  "Sure.  But first, let's watch Bud and Marie show us each one of those techniques she just described."  Jeffrey looked at Marie and smiled.

Marie was enjoying their time with Jeffrey and Meggie. They both seemed so nice. She got the feeling that their relationship was still rather new and developing. She glanced at Bud and smiled. He was the only man who'd she'd ever wanted to spend the rest of her life with through both the good and bad times. That hadn't changed one bit since they'd been through both.

Bud held his hand out to her. "The official dancing hasn't started yet, Hon, but there's music and this patch of grass looks just as good as anywhere else." He led her a few steps from their table.

Marie still wondered how Bud could do it. It always worked. When he slipped his hand into hers and his other around her waist to dance, she felt she was home every time. She had to tell Meggie and Jeffrey later that she'd been unable to dance well when she met Bud. Sure she could dance to rock music or sway to a slow dance, but to really dance, she'd been unable. Bud had been the good dancer. Men from his time danced more than most did today. So, Marie had taken a ballroom dancing class to learn the basics. And to learn how to follow Bud's lead on the dance floor. It had always been something they'd enjoyed doing together.

Etta James song, 'At Last' began playing softly. Their eyes met. It was the song they'd first danced to at their wedding reception. Bud whispered into her ear.

"They're playing our song."

She felt the smile on his lips as they lightly touched the pinna of her ear. She motioned to Jeffrey and Meggie to join them on the makeshift dance floor before her head nestled against Bud's chest and the two of them were lost in each other and the song.

From their chairs, Meggie and Jeffrey smiled, each watching how lovingly the two danced to the love song.  Bud leaned in to whisper something into Marie's ear, and then she laid her head against his chest.

"Meggie, shall we?"  Jeffrey had stood up and held his hand out to her.

Meggie looked back at Marie, who was smiling at them, and decided to go.  "I'll take me shoes off, so I don't..." she started to say, leaning down to undo the straps.

"No, no, no...come here, you."  Meggie stopped what she was doing and looked up into his face.  His blue-green eyes were sparkling, and like the singer cooed, she, too, was falling under a magical spell.

Jeffrey led Meggie over to where Marie and Bud were dancing.  The warmth and softness of his hand around her waist sent shivers up her spine, and before she knew it, Jeffrey had hold of her right hand.  Meggie's other hand settled on his back as she allowed Jeffrey to take the lead.

"Meggie, look at me darling," he said softly, trying to get her attention away from the ground and her feet.

"But...."

"Just follow me with your heart, let the music tell you how to move."

A small sigh escaped her lips and Meggie gradually rested her head against his chest.  As Jeffrey continued to hold her, Meggie caught Marie's eyes and smiled.

Marie watched Jeffrey and Meggie for a moment. They were doing just fine together. Her head went back down onto Bud's chest. She felt his arms tighten around her. There truly was nowhere else she'd rather be than in his arms.

Bud took in the scent of her hair. He felt the curve of her body against his. He was enjoying himself. And all he wanted to do was to get her home alone with him. That would be later. For now he had her in his arms.

She had that sudden sense of deja vu. What time or when was she thinking of? A jolt of reality shot through her body. A romantic dinner and dancing. She and Bud had gone home and made love half the night. It was the night she'd gotten pregnant.

A tear escaped and rolled down her cheek. She didn't want Bud to see it. Marie kept her face buried against his shoulder as he led her around the dance floor. At that moment she knew. She wanted to try again. As scared as she was, having their baby was worth trying again. How would she ever convince Bud of that?

The song ended and Bud tipped her chin up and met her lips with his. They savored the light and loving kiss. Tonight was not the night to broach the subject that would have to be discussed in the near future. They separated reluctantly and turned to find Jeffrey and Meggie similarly engaged in one another.

Marie sighed happily. "That has to be the most romantic song every written. Let's have some cake and coffee and then more dancing. Would you like some Jeffrey and Meggie?"

They didn't answer at first. Marie smiled up at Bud. His arms were still wrapped tightly around her.

Jeffrey slowly let go of Meggie's waist and stepping back, twirled her around.  Caught off guard, her twirl was not as perfect as she would have liked, but at the moment, it didn't matter.  Laughing, she returned to his arms and kissed him on the lips before realizing Marie and Bud were watching them.

"I would love some more cake and coffee," Jeffrey answered, looking into Meggie's flushed face and then back to Marie.

"Sounds good,"  Meggie nodded.

Following Marie and Bud to the table, Meggie received another piece of the delicious wedding cake.  As Jeffrey returned from his seat to get more coffee, Meggie looked at Marie.  "Thank you, Marie.  That was absolutely wonderful."  Suddenly, she noticed how Marie's eyes revealing a bit of sadness.  "Marie, are you okay?"  she asked softly, not wanting to upset her or appear nosey.  She smiled, hoping it would bring some comfort to the other woman.

Marie smiled and patted her hand. "I'm just fine, Meggie. Thank you for asking. Sometimes an old sadness tries to threaten a new happiness. We have to not allow that to happen." She took a bite of the luscious cake.

Someday she'd tell Meggie of the loss of their child. But, not today at this happy wedding and not within earshot of Bud. She wouldn't cause that pain.

"This is very good wedding cake. It's nice to have two such lovely people to share this time and our dance with. She smiled at Jeffrey and Meggie as she slipped her free hand into Bud's. She felt him squeeze her hand in response.

Libby was taking this as an opportunity to get to know as many of the Glen residents as she could. And it was nice to see the entire community out like this, especially so soon following the murder. Good to know everyone could still celebrate a happy occasion.

Spying a man she knew to be Travis McGee, Libby walked over. Her reporter's instinct always told her to get close to someone who had so recently been in the news.

"Mr. MGee." She walked right up and held out her hand. "My name's Libby Tyler. I'm with the Glen Times. It's so wonderful to see you and your family here today."

The Glen Times. Travis tilted his head and smiled, "G'day Miss Tyler nice to meet you, this is my father Bill and my mother Sarah. This is Tee McGee, ,my nephew," he said placing his hands on T'ee's shoulders. I thought it might be a good day to meet my neighbors under a happy circumstance."

"Yes, it's much better to meet people on a happy occasion," Libby told him.  "Mr. and Mrs. McGee."  she nodded toward Bill and Sarah.  "Wonderful to meet you."

"And Tee," she went on, holding out her hand to shake the boy's.  "It's great to see you.  I haven't been here long, but there don't seem to be many kids here in the Glen.  Hope you don't get bored."

Tee smiled shyly and shook her hand, "no ma'am"
"He doesn't have time to get bored we keep him pretty busy on the Station and he's going to start school in another week." Travis mussed his hair a little. "There's a Nana Glen Public School not far from here." Travis said noticing a man walking toward them that he didn't know.

"Ah, yes, I know about it," Libby said, still smiling at Tee.  "I just got out of college myself not too long ago, she told Tee.  I actually kinda miss school, but don't tell anybody!"

As Dan Evans came walking up to them, Libby offered him a somewhat reserved smile.  She hadn't seen him since he'd called her to cancel the dinner he'd asked her to the other night, and she wasn't sure she really wanted to talk to him.  But, when she realized that the McGees didn't know him, she had to at least perform the introductions.

"Mr. and Mrs. McGee, Travis, Tee, this is Dan Evans.  He lives on a ranch too.  The Wade Ranch.  Dan, these are the McGees--Travis, his parents, and this is Tee."

"G'day mate," Travis said shaking his hand. "So you're part of the Wade Ranch...horses I believe."

"That's right," Dan answered slowly.  "Although I wouldn't exactly say I'm part of the ranch.  I'm Mr. Wade's business manager.  He has a lot of investments and the ranch is only one of them."

Dan couldn't help but be a little suspicious of Travis McGee.  What was Libby doing talking with him so long?  Was she interested in him?  And was he interested in her?

"And you're in cattle ranching, I believe, Mr. McGee?" he asked.

"Yeah mate, we run about 300 head kind of a mixed lot, all grass fed, so you're his business manager eh, I got a board of directors running my show in Sydney but the cattle station is my baby I'm learning as I go." Travis turned and watched Tee go off with his grandparents and he took a drink from his glass he was feeling a little more relaxed now.

"Board of directors, eh?" Dan asked.  "I suggested something like that to Ben once, but he prefers to keep his operations in as few hands as possible.  Dan knew exactly why that was--fewer people knowing about where Wade's wealth had actually been acquired.

"Getting to know Libby here, are you."  Dan looked her up and down.  She was gorgeous in the green dress she was wearing, and she still didn't like it that she was spending so much time talking to Travis McGee.

Travis detected a tone in Dan's voice and testing fate with a smile playing on his lips, "yeah I don't usually talk to the press, in fact I never talk to the press but I'm making an exception for this beautiful reporter," he took a sip of his drink watching Dan's face.

Dan's face darkened a little, but he put a smile on it, hoping he was doing a good job of looking unconcerned.  "You'd better watch out McGee.  It's these beautiful reporters that can get you in trouble--get you talking before you realize what you're doing."

Libby was getting ticked off that she was being discussed as though she weren't even here.  And why should Dan care who she talked with anyway.  He'd barely spoken to her all day long.

She smiled sweetly at Travis McGee.  "Why, thank you, Travis."  She used his first name deliberately.  "It's so nice to be complimented by such a handsome man."

Travis aware of the game being played out smiled sweetly back, "talk like that will get you a long ways honey, I'm surprised you haven't been scooped up by one of these blokes," he looked around at everybody but Dan. Travis had seen Kyle at the drinks table and hoped he stayed there. This could be fun.

Libby put her hand on his arm.  "Such nice compliments.  Keep talking like that and you just might make the front page."  Sipping her champagne again, she smiled at him and ignored Dan.

Travis looked down a moment and then met her eyes, "I already been on the front page honey, anything between us is strictly off the record. I see what you mean Dan...could be dangerous ground." He looked at Dan and knew he'd pissed him off beyond redemption. Travis ran his hand through his hair, well the bloke should speak up if its his sheila.

Dan's face had grown steadily darker, and now he decided it was time to take some action.  With no warning, he took Libby's arm.  "If you'd excuse us a moment, Mr. McGee-Travis-I need to talk with Libby about something."

Travis smiled and winked at Libby, "sure Dan it was nice talking to you Libby," he touched her shoulder flirting to the last minute.

Sarah had taken Tee to get a cup of punch and Bill tugging at his tie looked around for a seat. These kind of things went on forever and he'd never been one for social gatherings.
"Oh Mr. McGee are you enjoying the day?" Miss Peeg said taking a seat beside him.
"Honestly no...not my kind of thing at all." Bill said tugging again at his tie.
"Please call me Winnie, I've met your wife and we're to have tea next week."
"My name's Bill, that's good Sarah needs something to do. I think she's a bit lost out here right now."
"It takes some getting used to if you're used to a city."
"We come from Sydney...lived in the suburbs all her life."
"I shall be happy to show her around." Her attention was caught by the group to her left. Travis, Libby and Dan. She wondered what was going on there, Mr. Evans looked like a storm cloud.

Liana felt a little nervous in the crowds at the reception. Ben, though, was right at home. As the residents crowded around to wish them well, he was his usual self--charming the ladies, sympathizing with the men.

Liana recognized Ivy Braddock from the tavern. When she and her husband came up to the newly wedded couple, Liana said warmly, "It's so wonderful to see you, Mr. and Mrs. Braddock. Thank you so much for coming."

Startled for a moment, when the bride called them by name, Ivy attempted to recover quickly. Smiling she gave a bride a friendly hug. "Liana, it was a lovely ceremony, just lovely. I am happy we finally get to meet."

"Thank you," Liana told her.  "I'm happy we're finally meeting as well.  You and your husband must come over to see us."

Ben was shaking Jim Braddock's hand.  He felt the strength of a fighter there, but also the heart of a fighter.  That was something Ben could understand.  "Braddock," he said heartily.  "Good to meet you at last.   Heard your last fight went well."

"Depends on who you talk to about that last fight" Jim replied nodding his head towards Ivy. "But you picked a fine day for a wedding."

The expression on Ivy's face had changed to one of concern. "Oh Liana, I'm not sure when I will have the opportunity to do that. I just don't want you to think I'm avoiding you or anything; maybe after the grocery opens though."

"I'd heard you were opening a grocery store," Liana exclaimed.  "Oh, it'll be so wonderful to have one right here in town, instead of having to go into Coffs Harbour to shop.  When will it be opening?  Do you know yet?"

Relaxing a bit Ivy smiled. "Yes, it should be open in a week and a half I should think. We still have the final inspection and the last few deliverys. My uncle is arriving next week to help with the last minute details. Once things get settled we should have some free time."

"Then, you must come to dinner one night after that," Liana told Ivy.  "You'll probably be too exhausted to feel like cooking anyway."

"Grocery store oughta do well in this town, " Ben was saying to Jim.  "Save a lotta people a thirty minute drive.  If you should find you need any new investors in it, keep me in mind."

"Ben!"  Liana scolded him.  "Don't talk business on our wedding day and to our guests!  I'm sorry."  She apologized to Ivy.  "Guess he'll never change when it comes to business."

"The grocery is Ivy's project, you'd have to talk to her about investments. I'm just around to make sure she doesn't over do it. She gets stubborn and tries to move things she has no business moving herself." Jim gave Ivy a half scolding look as he took her hand in his.
"I honestly don't even remember the last time I cooked...months ago. I think it was last November... a few days after we got married. I don't even have any pots and pans unpacked yet. I don't see why we couldn't visit after the store opens and things settle down." Ivy looked at Jim. "I guess I should get things settled at home one of these days too. Take care of you for a change."  "You do just fine by me Ivy. But we should let the others have a chance to congratulate the bride and groom. Again best wishes to you both."

Having congratulated the bride and groom Ivy was at a loss as to what to do with herself. She was feeling a little tired and all the meeting and greeting that comes with attending a wedding reception seem too much. Jim noticed. "Ivy are you alright?"

"I'm fine I just feel a little tired, I think I am getting a headache", Ivy replied as she sat down at one of the nearby empty tables. "Do you want to leave? I'll take you home if you want." Jim sat in the seat beside her looking at her face trying to decide if she looked pale. "No, it is too soon to leave. I'll be fine. Maybe I just need to eat something." Standing up he leaned over and kissed her cheek. "I'll make a plate. Just stay put." Ivy smiled as she watched Jim walk away. "I am very lucky woman", she thought to herself.

Colleen sat down beside Ivy. "There you are. I've been looking for you. Cal and I have been so remiss on taking you up on your dinner offer and I wanted to apologize.  You see, something happened between us. I mean..." she paused noticing that Ivy didn't look all to well. "Are you okay, hon?"

"I think so. I don't feel quite right, but I think I'll be OK. Don't worry about the dinner. Jim and I have both been so busy between the house and the grocery, I don't think we would have had time. I really didn't expect everything to move as quickly as it did. Is everything alright with you and Cal?"

"Oh but I do worry. I know we're all busy right now but we sure do need to take time to stop and smell the roses, or be with our friends. Ivy. I've missed talking to you. Let me tell you , I need another woman around to chew the fat with. Cal and I , well, we're officially a couple now and I've needed to talk to someone so bad. I feel really happy, my friend. Now I know how you and Jim feel. I'm in love."

Ivy smiled. "I'm happy to hear about you and Cal. Your right Colleen, I should be taking more time out for friends. I haven't even spent much time with Jimmy lately." She blushed slightly thinking of the night they moved in the house. "Do you want to have lunch together just you and me? We can still all do dinner but we can schedule a girls day too."

"I'd love that. With Libby and Abby working on the paper, I should have a little more time. I heard there's a great Chinese restaurant in Coffs. I haven't tasted a good Sechuan since I left the states. Does that suit you?"

"Sure. Chinese sounds good. I have the next few days free if that works for you."  Jim sat down beside Ivy and handed her the plate. "I ran into Richie over at the food table or I would have been back sooner." Noticing the woman sitting at the table he smiled, "Colleen right?"

"That's right, Jim. I knew you'd never forget a good Irish name." she smiled. "Ivy and I were just making some girl plans but we are going to all get together for dinner. By and by , its great that you two opened a greocery store. Would you be interested in putting out a weekly sales circular?"

"The grocery is Ivy's project but it doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. What do you think baby?"
"I hadn't thought of doing that. I think Ian used to do that though. So maybe when he gets here we could discuss some ideas with him." Looking at Colleen ivy realized she had no idea who Ian was. "Sorry Colleen, Ian is my uncle he is coming to help me out with running the grocery store."

"I'm looking forward to meeting him. Is he coming for a visit or is he coming to explore the possibility of staying around? It is amazing to me , how fast this place is growing and it will be great to be able to buy groceries in town instead of driving all the way to Coffs for an order. Your business looks like it may end up being pretty lucrative."

"I would love for Ian to stay, but it hasn't been discussed. He's a bachelor so you never know what he'll decide to do. Everyone seems to think the grocery is a good idea. There is still so much I don't know though. But that is why Ian is coming, he ran a small grocery when I was younger. That is actually what gave me the idea in the first place."

"I'm sure you are going to be brilliant at it. Will you have a deli too?" she asked "I mean, you coming from New Jersey and all kind of says it all. I heard all about that pork roll too. It would sure please Cal if we could get it or something like it here."

"Actually since you mentioned it. I once told Cal that if there was salt water taffy and pork roll I could live just about anywhere. It is more expensive but I got it through customs and plan to keep it stocked at the store. The stores offerings will be fairly comprehensive and I should be able to order anything anyone would need if they give me some lead time. Of course if there is something I should keep in stock I am always accepting suggestions as well."

"I've not had salt water taffey in years!" Colleen replied. "You know what I miss though. You're probably going to laugh but its peanut brittle. I don't think the Australians have even heard of it. The woman at the store in Coffs looked at me like I had three heads when I asked for it. I should just learn to make it."

Some cheering caught Colleen's attention and she turned around. "I think they're cutting the cake. Are you feeling well enough for a piece, Ivy? I'll be happy to get some for you both."

"I can teach you to make peanut brittle. I used to make it with my father, he liked it too. I think I am going to pass on cake though. " Jim shook his head. "No thanks Colleen."

"I'd be eternally indebted to you. I know its mostly corn syrup and sugar with salt and baking soda, right but I am not sure how to get it flat and crunchy." she shrugged. "As for the cake, I think I'll pass on it too. Save up all my calorie intake for brittle."

Another ruckus caught her attention. "What's going on over by the chapel?"

Jim stood up to get a better look at the source of the commotion. "Looks like something is going on with Millie." Ivy turned in her chair. "You don't think it has something to do with the baby do you?"

"If it is something like that, I sure hope everything is alright."

Cal found his way to the small group at this point. He was pretty excited when he made the announcement. After greeting Jim and Ivy properly he said. "Did you all hear. Millie just had a baby boy in the chapel. Gee I sure hope someone got pictures."

"Dear me." Ivy looked horrified. "I couldn't imagine..." Turning towards Jim she reached for him. "Can you take me home now? I really don't feel very well." Jim helped steady her as she stood. "She's been over doing it lately. She needs some rest." Having made excuses Jim followed Ivy to the car to take her home.

Bud and Marie walked hand in hand to meet Ben and Liana. Bud had heard some about Ben Wade, but knew nothing of him personally. This gave him a chance to size the man up.

Marie smoothed his tie and kissed his cheek while they waited for the groom and his bride to be free.

"Have I told you how handsome you look today, Bud White?" She rubbed her lipstick off his cheek.

He grinned at her. The love and warmth reached his eyes in a way that was rarely seen by anyone but Marie.

"Hon, have I mentioned how gorgeous you look?"

"Flattery will get you everywhere, Officer White. And if you bring up how I'm looking later, I can guarantee some special perks to your job." She fluttered her eyelashes flirtatiously at him.

"Are you trying to bribe an officer of the law, Miss?" He warned her. "You could get into some real trouble that way. And I'm just the man to bring it home."

She giggled. "I certainly hope so, Officer White. Oh, look, Ben and Liana are alone for a moment. Let's give them our best wishes and congratulations." She whispered to him before they approached the couple. "I'll be looking for the trouble later...at home. That's after some major dancing, by the way."

Bud groaned. He liked dancing with Marie. Holding her close. But, these damned new dress shoes were like vises on his feet. What he'd give for a good pair of his comfortable work shoes right now.

"C'mon, Hon." He led her to side of the newly married couple and stuck his hand out to shake the groom's.

"Hi. I'm Bud White. This is my wife, Marie. Congratulations on your marriage." He glanced a moment at Marie and gave her a smile before looking back into the eyes of Ben Wade.

Here was a man he'd never met, but Ben had heard about him.  Bud White was a cop and had taken over at the sheriff's office while John Biebe was on administrative leave.  Ben Wade would forever be on his guard around any officer of the law, but he was so happy today, he wouldn't be baiting any of them.

Heartily, he shook White's hand.  "Glad to meet you, White.  Thank you, and this is the beautiful bride."  They waited a moment, as Liana and Marie had already introduced themselves and were hugging and crying a little."

Ben shook his head mockingly.  "These women.  Always cryin' about somethin'."  He grinned at Bud White.  "Surprises me the church wasn't flooded."

This kind of teasing didn't hurt nothing. Bud was still in an overly protective mode over Marie. She seemed very happy today. He hadn't seen any signs of the sadness overtaking her. It seemed to be less all the time.

"Marie and her little cousin, Ashley, were sitting in the church crying through the whole ceremony. I don't know if they saw or heard much of it." Bud chuckled to Wade.

He'd heard about Ben Wade. Rumors and innuendos. He'd make up his own mind. If he stayed on the right side of the law and treated his new wife well, he'd have no problems with Bud. He looked like a very happy man right now.

He heard Marie laugh. "I heard every word and saw every part of the ceremony, Bud White." She continued talking to Liana after winking at Bud.

Bud was no one to give advice or words of wisdom on marriage. He had learned what not to do in his marriage to Lynn and he fucking hoped he was doing a better job this time with Marie. It felt right.

"We may not always understand them, but we sure love them." Bud saw the way Wade was looking at his bride. They were starting out the right way.

"We must," Ben told him with a grin.  "Why the hell else'd we make such fools of ourselves?"

"How's the job treatin' you?  With Biebe on leave."

Bud thought about some of his screwy behavior since he and Marie had arrived at the Glen. The things he'd done in the name of love and to protect her. A snort of agreement slipped from him regarding making a fool of himself over love. Not like acting like a fool would probably ever stop him when it came to her. Nothing was precious in his life like her.

"The job is good. It's what I'm meant to do. I had my own security firm back in the States. Business was good...but there's nothing like real police work to my blood pumping."

Bud wasn't really fishing. It was the man's wedding afterall. It didn't hurt to be a good neighbor. As well as a cop.

"If you're needing any police help, business or personal, let us know. We're here to serve." He kept his face open and friendly. Bud was a detective by nature and training. Observation was his job as he waited for Wade's reaction.

"That's reassurin' to know White," Ben said, careful to keep his face neutral.  "Looks like Biebe found himself a good man to take over while he's gone."

"Security, huh?  Know a thing or two about that myself."  Wade was thinking mainly of all the security systems he'd circumvented, but now he said, "Put in security at a couple of places I own.  And now the ranch, of course."

Wade had a good poker face. He wouldn't give anything away he didn't want heard. Bud glanced at Marie in conversation with Liana. They were the main reason for having a good security system. Protection of the ones you loved.

"It's always a good thing to have a top notch security system to help protect what is most important to us."

"If you ever need some help with the security systems at your businesses or ranch, let me know. I'd be glad to help out a neighbor."

Miss Peeg spotted Libby Tyler talking with the McGee's and made her way over. She wanted to let her know about the flat.
Sarah McGee smiled when she saw Winnie and gave a little wave. Miss Peeg thought Sarah might be a bit lonely here in The Glen and decided she would like to know her better.

"Lovely wedding," she said to Sarah
"Yes it was...and a lovely setting I said to Bill we should start coming to this church on Sunday."
"I think you would enjoy it Sarah Reverend Harris is very good isn't he?"
"I loved the ceremony...original." she smiled
"I believe Reverend Harris is a bit of an original too," Miss Peeg said keeping her eye on Libby and waiting for a word.

Finally, Libby managed to greet the older woman. "Miss Peeg," she said warmly. "How nice to see you." She was trying to be polite, but her eyes kept following Dan Evans.

"Did you enjoy the wedding?" she asked Miss Peeg.

"I did indeed Libby...I wanted to ask you if you're still interested in the flat above Mr. Robert's office it's now ready to let." Miss Peeg followed her eyes to the handsome Mr. Evans and smiled. He seemed to be making his way over.

"Oh, yes, definitely!"  Libby was enthusiastic about the apartment.  "When would be a good time for me to come by and see it?  The tavern's nice, but I'd so like a place I could really call home!"

"O I should think Monday...anytime Monday would be convenient. It's very nice actually." Miss Peeg smiled.

"I'll be there!" Libby exclaimed, as Dan walked up to them.  "It'll probably be after work, but please don't rent it to anyone else before then!"

Happy as he was today, Ben took an immediate dislike to the man coming toward him. It was one thing to enjoy your money. Ben was a rich man and he enjoyed it immensely, having worked hard for what he had (in his point of view anyway, even though he knew the people surrounding him now wouldn't see it that way). But this man- This man in his Armani suit, with the woman beside him draped in glittery jewels, had an air of superiority about him that Ben didn't hold with at all. And an air of danger as well.

As the man and his woman stepped up to Ben and Liana, Ben found himself slightly shielding Liana with his body. As the man held out his hand, Ben took it reluctantly, even though he smiled broadly, "Pleasure to meet you, stranger,"

"Sid," Sid said, gripping Ben's hand possibly more firmly than required. He'd noted the groom's expression as he approached as well as the falsely quick covering smile. "And this is my new bride, Katherine. We were just married in Sydney, at the Opera House." He kept his arm possessively around Kate's lavender middle.

"So nice to meet you, Mr. Wade, and Mrs. Wade," Kate said, smiling at them, as Sid held her tight against his side. "The ceremony was just beautiful."

"More newlyweds!" Liana exclaimed, as she took Katherine's hand.  "How wonderful!"  But she had noted Ben's reaction, as well as Sid's reaction to him.

"Well, well," Ben drawled.  "The Opera House in Sydney.  Fancy place for a weddin'.  What business might you be in, Sid?">

"Corporations," Sid replied. "I buy them."

"You don't say," Ben's drawl was still there.  Obviously, this Sid was a man who was a mite conceited.  "Tried that a few times myself.  Found out it was a lot more satisfyin' just to force 'em into receivership and take over."

"That's what I meant by 'buy'," Sid smiled. Damn, did he actually have something in common with this uncouth fellow?

Kate really had no clue as to what her husband's business was; he had never actually told her, other than he owned corporations. She wasn't sure exactly if he were actually did 'hostile' takeovers or if he were just joking. She bit her bottom lip, listening as the two men chatted, wondering what else she might not know about Sid.

"Ma'am."  Ben nodded toward Katherine.  "You're lookin' nice today.  Hope you're enjoyin' the reception."

"Why, thank you, I am, Mr. Wade," Kate replied, smiling warmly at him. She wasn't sure what to make of him, though he seemed nice enough. She looked up at Sid, wondering what he thought of the man.

"Your dress is lovely," Liana told Katherine.  She wasn't quite sure what to make of Sid, but his wife seemed nice.

"Thanks, so is your's. Seems both our husbands have great taste, don't they?" Kate replied, trying to sound as sincere as she could, despite the fact that Liana's dress was definitely not something Kate would have ever considered wearing. And of course, she knew that Sid would never, ever even have considered buying anything that was either worn by another bride or came from a second hand shop. Still, she found Liana sweet, and was happy to finally meet her and Ben.

Meanwhile, Ben had turned back to Sid.  "Maybe we'll have to compare war stories one day, Mr.-?"  He'd noticed immediately that Sid hadn't offered his last name.

"Harbor, Sidney Harbor." Sid cast a quick glance at Katherine.

Kate smiled proudly at her husband, thinking how lucky she was to be his wife.

"Harbor."  Ben's look at him was doubtful.  He'd used enough aliases in his lifetime to know when another man was giving him one.  "Interestin' name.  That the name you were born with?"

"It is," Sid replied, drawing himself up to his full height, "the name I have."

"Come, Katherine," Sid purred. "I'm sure the Weeds, excuse me, the Wades have many people they must greet this afternoon." Just before he turned, he looked back at Ben. "War stories, yes. That should prove most interesting."

Kate looked back at them as Sid led her away, and called out, "Nice to meet you. Maybe we could go shopping together sometime."

"That would be nice," Liana called back to her, giving Ben a puzzled look as the two walked away.

The fact that Sid 'Harbor' had taken his wife and walked away when he was asked about his name was not lost on Ben. There was a man with somethin' to hide. It could be interestin' findin' out just what it is, Ben thought to himself.

Joimus joined the reception a few minutes late, having gone around the sanctuary blowing out the candles. "Wouldn't want the church to burn down," she said, coming up to where Maximus stood conversing quietly with Alistair and Ahnna.

"I've heard we're getting a fire department," Alistair commented. "I think that's a good idea for our community.
We're a bit far for help to come from another town."

"Oh, darling, let's not talk of fires today," Ahnna said, shaking her head. "It's lovely out here and everyone's in
their finest and Liana and Ben look so happy." She squeezed Alistair's hand. "And best of all I got to hear you
sing two songs."

Joimus looked over at Ben. "I wonder what he thought of the vows you had
him say?"

"You noticed my deliberate phrasing, did you?" Alistair smiled.

"I did, indeed. I found them very appropriate."

Travis felt Tee tugging on his arm and looked down.

"Uncle Travis there's Reverend Harris, could I meet him?"

"Sure Tee," Travis walked over and introduced himself and Tee.

"Reverend Harris I...I was wondering if you'd introduce me to God?"

Travis's eyes widened he had no idea what Tee was about, he cleared his throat, "Uh... Tee's had a hard go of it Reverend Harris, his mother died about a month ago...she was a drug addict and I reckon his upbringing and education is sorely lacking."

"Hello, Tee," Alistair said, smiling and squatting to Tee's eye level. "So you'd like to meet God, would you? Well, He happens to be about the best friend I have and I'd like very much to introduce you to Him. He's always on the lookout for new friends, you know."

Tee's shy smile appeared on his face and he tossed his head, a habit he'd acquired when his hair hung in his eyes all the time. "Well when's he's home," he glanced at the church, "tell him I'd like to be his friend too."

"Oh, He doesn't live in the church, Tee." Alistair reached out, taking one of Tee's hands and pressing it to his chest. "I carry Him around with me wherever I go. If I could come out here and leave Him inside, well, you see, that's just not good enough. There's not a single minute that I'd want Him to be as far away from me as we are from the church. He wouldn't like that, either. And, you know, there are some people who do try to leave Him in the church. But I'll tell you a secret, Tee. He doesn't stay in there."

Tee wrinkled his brow trying to understand, "I wouldn't stay in there either," he said. "Maybe you can tell me some more about Him sometime so I can find him when he's not home."

Travis stood back amazed at Tee...the boy who wouldn't say hardly anything a few weeks ago was trying to find God...at a wedding reception.

"I'd be happy to talk with you about Him whenever you like, Tee. Just remember, ok, that He's always home. It's simply a matter of knowing where His home is." Alistair straightened and smiled.

"I appreciate your talking to him Rev. Harris, I think we'll get him to church on Sunday." Travis mussed Tee's hair meeting Alistair's eyes

"That will be fine," Alistair replied. "And if you want to bring him by the mill any time, I'd like that, too." He turned his gaze down to Tee. "I've got fish in the millpond and a young pup that would probably like to run with a boy just about your age.".

Tee looked up at his uncle, "that sounds like something he would enjoy Rev. Harris we'll do that now I think I'll head him over to the food table, thanks again," Travis shook his hand and led Tee to the table handing him a plate.

After the ceremony, Colin was eager to get out of the chapel and as far away from Sid and Kate as possible.

Telling Arthur he'd see him later, he and Abby headed over to the reception where he managed to relax a bit.

"That was such a lovely ceremony, wasn't it?" Abby asked.

Colin quietly nodded, handing her a glass of champagne. He took a large gulp of his beer, as he watched the crowd and listened to Abby

happily chattering away about the wedding. He was managing to keep a rather low profile at the reception so far. He didn't want to blow

his chances with Abby, this only being their second date and all.

"Oh look, the bride and groom have arrived!" Abby exclaimed, excitedly. "Colin, I want to meet them."

"We will," he told her, "but let's give them a chance to catch their breath first. Looks like they've got quite a crowd there now."

She smiled and agreed, though a bit reluctantly, then took a sip of her champagne. "Well, let's at least mingle a bit, then. I'm new

in town, remember? I'd like to get to know a few more people while I'm here today."

"Sorry, luv," Colin told her, brushing a loose strand of hair away from her face. "I guess I'm not much of a mingler. Usually tend

to keep much to myself during fancy to-dos such as this. Maybe you could help me out in that regard."

Abby smiled, took his hand and gave it a light kiss. "Follow me," she said, leading him away from the bar and over towards a crowd of people.

Libby came up to them just before they reached the crowd.  She had a glass of champagne in her hand.  "Hi there, fellow cub!"  She greeted Abby cheerily.  "And this must be your fellow?"  She nodded toward Colin.

"Hey, you!" Abby exclaimed, giving Libby a friendly hug. "Oh yes, this handsome and very patient man standing next to me is Colin," Abby said, smiling broadly, as she introduced the two. "Colin, this is Libby. I told you about her, she works down at the paper with me."

Colin smiled warmly, nodded. "G'day, Libby. Nice to finally meet ya."

"Nice to meet you too, Colin," Libby told him.  "You're as handsome as Abby said you were.".

Colin grinned and raised an eyebrow, "Hmm....so she's been talking about me, huh? What else did she say?" he giggled.

Abby rolled her eyes and blushed a bit.

"Well, I don't wanna reveal all her secrets," Libby said with a grin.  "I do have to work with her, you know."

"Speaking of work," she continued.  "Here come our bosses."  Cal and Colleen were approaching, with drinks in their hands.

Abby smiled and waved at Cal and Colleen as they walked up to the group. "Fancy seeing you two here," she told them, noting Colleen's lack of pantyhose and grinned as she cocked an eyebrow.

Libby had noticed the same thing, and she grinned at Abby.  "Yeah, we weren't sure if you would make it, being so late," she said innocently.

Cal handed a drink to each of them then he took his from Colleen. "My my my what a beautiful staff we have at the Glen Times. Hellooo ladies. You're all very ravishing today. Including my lovely partner of course." He grinned wryly and looked down at Colleen's bare legs. "Are you having fun, Libby? Abbu?"

"Cal you are such a tool!" Colleen nipped as she shook her head. She knew he was just teasing though.

"Not as much fun as the two of you must be having," Abby giggled.

"If you only knew!" Colleen giggled

Colin stepped up next to Abby and put his arm around her, wondering if she were going to introduce him to her bosses or not. "Oh, Cal, Colleen, this is Colin O'Brien... my....date." Colin noticed her pause there at the end, as if she were wondering if to say he was more than just her 'date' or not. A wide smile spread across his face, and he held out his hand towards Cal. "Nice to meet you, Cal, Colleen. Abby has told me a lot about you two."

"I hope it was all good." Cal replied. He took Colin's hand firmly.

"As far as you're concerned, Yes!" Abby giggled.

"Did you and I meet before? I published something about your garage a while ago. Is business good?

Colin grinned, shook Cal's hand. "Briefly, over the phone, as I recall. Kate...my umm...ex, actually dropped the ad off to you at your office. Appreciate you running it for me, business has been steadily booming ever since. Even had to hire a couple blokes to help out a while back."

"Great! So many of the businesses in the Glen are doing well. Congratulations.:"

Libby was having a hard time trying not to giggle at the site of Colleen without her pantyhose and thinking about she and Cal being so late.  Must be the champagne, she thought.

She was holding her glass and trying not to break out laughing, as Abby frowned at her and shook her head, behind Cal's and Colleen's backs.

"Okay, I'm cutting you off," Abby giggled to Libby, pretending to try and grab her glass of champagne from her hand.

"For some reason, I'd really like a piece of that cake right now." Colleen jumped in. She turned to look at the girls giggling and she knew exactly why they were. "Just don't print anything about it, ladies. I'll give you the details in private and I want them to stay that way...for now."

Libby was giggling harder as she held her champagne glass away from Abby, who was still trying to take it from her.

"Nope," she said, taking another sip.  "You can't have it.  I really need a drink today."  Her eyes were still following Dan Evans among the crowd.

Cal nudged Colleen, whispering to her after noticing where Libby was looking. "She's got the hots for him. Can you tell?"

"You reckon? Good for her. It's nice to have someone to cuddle."

"I figure if they both hook up with someone, they'll stay here in the Glen instead of moving away to get a job with a higher paying paper,"

"Right you are, Cal. Just so they are both happy though. That's the main thing. Now can we go get a piece of that cake? I'm craving chocolate."

Abby couldn't help but notice where Libby's eyes were roaming, too. She leaned over and whispered in her ear, "Ah...so THAT'S the man you've been day dreaming about lately, huh? Nice choice!"

Colin was wondering what all the giggling was about. He grinned at Abby, then said, "Cake sounds good to me, let's head over."

"Men...always thinking about their stomachs," Abby giggled, then added, "C'mon, stud, let's go get some of that cake for you then."

"Stud, huh?" Colin chuckled, then whispered to her, "Hmm...maybe later I can show you what a stud I really am...if your lucky, that is."
Abby giggled again, took him by the arm and led him off towards the cake table, calling back over her shoulder, "Catch ya later, Cal, Colleen, Libby!"

"Have fun, honey." Cal called "Remember, we have work bright and early in the morning. Don't do anything I wouldn't do."

"Geeze, Cal. That means she can do almost anything. You're 'don't do' list is pretty damn small."

"Are you complaining, precious?"

"Nope. I really like the back seat of your car. It smells like English Leather."

"I dare you to hang your panty hose from the antennae."

"Cal, where's your shorts? Any chaffing yet?"

"Touche!" .

Not wishing to end up a third wheel the whole night, Arthur happily said his goodbye's to Colin

and Abby and headed off for the reception alone. Once inside, he saw the couple standing off

to the side near the bar and decided to head over in the opposite direction, so not to get in their

way.

Spotting a friendly face in the crowd, Arthur made his way over to where Amanda was standing.

"Hi there, Amanda," he said, a bit shyly. "Fancy seeing you here, alone, too. How's Johnny doing?"

"Oh hi Arthur I'm glad you're here everybody seems to be coupled up," she smiled, "Johnny's coming along he has three more weeks in the hard cast and hopefully he can start walking. He would have liked to come today but its just to difficult with his crutches."

Arthur smiled. "Please give him my best and let him know if there's anything I can do to help, just let me know."

He had first met Amanda and Johnny at the Australia Day celebration and really liked them a lot. He'd felt quite bad when
he'd heard how Johnny had taken that tumble down the stairs after

his night out with Arthur and the boys.

"Actually Arthur there is something you might help us with. I've bought a cottage and we plan to move into it next week. Perhaps one day you might help me get our things down the stairs, after you get off work that is. And Johnny....he doesn't like to ask for help but I'd feel better if you were there to help him down the stairs they are so terribly steep."

"Absolutely, my pleasure," Arthur replied. "It'd be no trouble at all, Amanda. Like I said, anything I can do to help out. Whenever you are ready, just give me a ring and I'll be right over to lend a hand."

"Thank you Arthur Johnny was worried about me trying to do everything on  my own. Have you been down the food table yet? One thing I am going to miss when we move is Andy's kitchen."

"Why no, I haven't, though I am quite famished. May I accompany you there...er...since we're both here alone and all."

"Sure Arthur I'm a bit famished myself...we can hang out today," Amanda smiled and took his arm and a little awkwardly they made their way to the table to survey the food.

Arthur proudly led Amanda over to the the food table and began loading up his plate. In light of what happened with Johnny, he sort of felt the least he could do was keep an eye on his girlfriend for him, make sure she had a good time and kept her safe from any unwanted advancements from other blokes.

Would you like to go talk to Joi and Maximus?"

"I would like that very much, Bridgid. Perhaps we could find M and Terry as well."

"They'll be at the reception but they'll be a little late." Bridgid replied. "I see a lot of people that I've not met before. It looks like this town is going to keep growing for some time.

"Agreed." Jack replied. He reached into his pocket to retrieve a flask then he drank from it. Noticing the look on Bridgid's face, he handed it to her when he was done.

She took it, drank a sip then handed it back. "You do know there is an open bar, right, Jack?"

"Old habits die hard, Siren."

"That they do, but lets go get a drink anyway. Maybe Andy will fill that flask with some nice  Courvosier or something like that."

"Aye, brilliant as usual, Siren."

He drained the flask then offered her his arm. They made their way over to Andy at the drink table.

"Good day, young man." Jack said "Can I trouble you for two brandies.?"

"..and a pint of ale, please." Bridgid added.

"No trouble at all," Andy said setting up the glasses and filling them. "there ya go...anything else?"

Bridgid was waving to Joimus as Jack leaned over to hand Andy the flash. "Would you mind topping this off, sir. Brandy will be fine." he winked.

Andy grinned taking the flask, "don't see many of these around anymore, Brandy it is." Andy filled the flask and handed it back to Captain Aubrey.

Joimus and Maximus started to walk toward Bridgid and Jack, meeting them halfway. "So, Cuz, when are you going to sing in church, too?" Joimus asked, grinning at Bridgid.

"Howdy, you." Bridgid said as she grabbed Joi up in a hug. "I'll sing in church whenever Alistair asks me to. You both look well."

Jack and the General did the old handshake thing that always seemed to end with good solid pat on the upper arm.

"Why do that do that, Joi?" Bridgid giggled as she mocked the move on Joi's arm. "Men, can't live with them, can't kill them."she teased. "It was a lovely ceremony, don't you think? I must add that I bet you heard that question a half a dozen times already by now too."

"I have, but it was and I don't mind being asked. I always enjoy Alistair's words. And your playing!" she added. "So, what's up with you and the Captain? Did you two go somewhere?"

You wanna liven things up a bit?"

Jack and Bridgid looked at each other. They shared a smile.

"We were away for a short time, Madam, " Jack replied with a slight flush. "There were some issues that needed to be tended to and though we cherish our friends and family at the Glen, we needed to have some time alone."

Bridgid could hardly contain herself through Jacks formality. She was jiggling around like she had to pee or something. "yeah and guess what? We're finally going to get married all proper like."

Jack gave her a withering look but he allowed her the girlish giddiness she suffered on occasion. "She is correct. We have finally decided to take the plunge, however the details are yet to be formalized." With that he took Bridgid's hand in his. There was not doubt that they loved each other.

"Really?" Joimus almost squealed. She looked from Bridgid to Jack and back again to Bridgid. "Wow!"

"Congratulations," Maximus offered somewhat more sedately. "I am pleased to hear it, my friend." He clapped Jack on the back again. "It is a state of being which I myself heartily recommend."

"I am barely used to walking on land, my dear friend,. I should get used to one state of being at a time, however I cannot imagine life without my Siren, my betrothed as it may be."

Bridgid was still locked in a hug with Joi. When she finally let her go , she brushed her hair back with her hand and caught  her breath. We don't have a date yet but we will let you know when and where. Do you think Alistair gets sea sick?"

"We could...." Just then Alistair walked by. "Oh, Alistair," Joimus sang out, "how are your sea legs?"

"Sea legs?" He sized up the happy foursome. "Why, Captain Aubrey! Have you proposed to your lady fair?"

Offering the reverend a big smile, Jack extend his hand. "Yes sir, and I believe I have you to thank in part. Bridgid shared some of the conversation you had with her over dinner. Let me ask you this first, have you been well?"

"Jack Aubrey, you better be teasing or I'll never serve a meal to you again!"

"Ah, the silver lining. Yes, my love, I do jest. Would I be so well fed if I did not appreciate your fare?"

Bridgid shook her head with a smile. "Since you and the General discovered McDonald's, I am not sure how to answer...Alistair, its wonderful to see you again and I must say you managed to bring a tear to my eye with the ceremony. "

"Ah, success!" Alistair laughed. Looking at Jack he added, "And I am quite well, thank you. There is nothing like a good helping of tuna to keep one in fine fettle. You are thinking, I take it, of a wedding at, um, sea?"

"It would suite me just fine, " Jack replied. "But I will leave the lion's share of the planning to the lady of the manse."

Nice Jack. You're so well trained." Bridgid teased "Can you picture it now? All of the Glen residents out to sea celebrating our wedding? Perhaps we should save the shipboard antics for the honeymoon. I don't know how many of our friends would deal with a rolling deck."

"You see, my friends. She has already lashed grapeshot to both of my ankles."

"Gosh I love you, Jack Aubrey. You have such a way with words." Stepping into his space, Bridgid put her arms around him.

"There is nothing like the love of a good woman to keep one in fine fettle either, Reverend. I am remiss in congratulating you on your recent nuptials. Give you joy, sir."

"Thank you, Captain. I fear Ahnna's and my wedding was overshadowed by...other events. I shall pass on your congratulations to my wife. I'm sure they will mean a lot to her." He smiled warmly at Jack and Bridgid, pleased by their obvious affection for each other and enjoying their fond banter.

"Ah it sounds as if they are cutting the cake. Joi, Maximus, Alistair, lets all enjoy together." Bridgid said. "There's nothing finer than breaking bread with the ones you love or in this case , cake. I feel like Marie Antoinette. Let them eat cake!"

Jack rolled his eyes. "Please, I bid your favor, someone stop her before she begins singing the La Marseillaise. I do not believe I could bear both a Colonist and a Frenchwoman at once."

"Allons enfants de la patrie, Le jour de gloire est arrive'...."

At that point Jack clapped a hand over her mouth. He removed it, kissed her and shut her up but good. "No more Brandy for you. It will be a good British Port or nothing, madam." He grinned. "Now, I believe we were on our way to get some wedding cake..."

As they passed by the other food tables, Joimus elbowed Bridgid slightly. "Do you know who that rather, um, hirsute man is over there helping himself to the deviled eggs?
I don't believe I've ever seen him around the Glen before."

She glanced over at the man. "I came across him quite by accident, no pun intended,  but I have no idea what his name is. He is pretty dang handsome though isn't he? Of course I like my men with lots of hair." Glancing toward the man again, he seemed to catch Bridgid looking at him and she smiled briefly before averting her gaze. "Would you like to go talk to him, Joi? I've half a mind to walk up to him and flat out ask him his name."

"What do you mean, Siobhan?"

"Go talk to Ben Wade, John. Congratulate him and his bride.

"Do you think I'd have a problem doing that?"

"No, but you've had your head up your ass since we got here. I understand why but seeing as how it has nothing to do with the Wade's, I'd suggest you get into the spirit of things."

John gave her a sideways look before he simply walked away and toward Ben and his bride. When there eyes met, he extended his hand to the man. "Congratulations. I hope you have many happy years together."

Siobhan's hand was on John's back and she patted lightly. She knew he was a good man.

Today was his wedding--his legal wedding-- and Ben was too happy to play games.  And too conscious of Liana's happiness.

Taking Biebe's hand, he shook it warmly,  "Why, thank you--John."  He'd hesitated a moment, but the man's name had come to him.  "I'm sure we will."

Following his lead, Liana shook John Biebe's hand as well.  "I'm glad you could be here, Mr. Biebe.  I was so sorry to hear about the murder, and about your putting yourself on leave.  That must be difficult for you."

John used a little smile to cover how he really felt about being on leave. He shrugged and said "Thank you, Mrs. Wade. Let me add that you do look lovely today."

"You are beautiful, Liana,"Siobhan added "And the ceremony was one of the nicest I've ever seen." Turning her gaze to Ben, she wined. "Dunno how I would have handled a surprise like this if someone ever did it to me but it seems to have worked out well for you. Nice work, Ben. You don't mind if I call you Ben, do you?"

"Not a'tall, ma'am," Ben replied smoothly.  "This is no day for bein' formal."  He glanced sideways at Liana.  "Luckily, Liana here loves surprises.  Takes 'em all in stride."

Liana thanked Siobhan for her compliment.  "And you're looking lovely too.  I love the color of your dress!"

"Thank you for saying so. I rarely put a dress on. I feel so out of place."

"You should wear one more often. You're quite stunning" John said but he shrank back a bit feeling as if he spoke out of turn. He quickly regrouped and did his best to cover that one up. "Wade are you going to let me have one dance with your wife this time? Everyone gets a turn around the floor..or the grass as it may be, with the bride, right?"

"Of course," Ben told him.  "And maybe the lovely deputy here would grant me a dance, as well.  That sound all right with you, darlin'?" he asked Liana.

"Fine," Liana smiled.  "But do you mean I have to dance with everyone here?"  She looked at the crowd in mock dismay.  "I'm not sure I can stand up that long!"

"It's tradition, Liana, "Siobhan stated  "But they have to pay you for the dance. I think your matron of honor should have a lovely little silk bag to put your money in. Of course, Ben, you get the first dance. It always makes me cry to see a newly married couple have their first dance as man and wife. I think its such a special moment."

"You know, if people clink their champagne glasses while you are dancing, it means they want you to give her a kiss, Ben." John said, rather shyly. "Wedding traditions are different everywhere though."

Just as he said that, Brookie came running up to Ben and wrapped her arms around his leg. "Cake!" she said in a demanding tone. "Kin I have somma yer cake, please?"

Steve was not far behind her. He's been tending to Millie and chasing Brook all day. The poor man was run ragged. "Sorry, she's all excited today."

Ben had looked startled when the small, blonde girl had first clutched his leg, but then he smiled.  Bending, he lifted her up into his arms, holding her with a gentleness that most people would not have attributed to Ben Wade.

"That's okay," he told Steve, before looking back at Brook.

"So, you want some of my cake, do you darlin'?"  he asked Brook.

Liana was startled to see Ben pick up the child.  She'd never seen him around children before.  He looked as though he were enjoying himself.

Ben shifted Brook from one arm to the other, as one of her small arms wrapped around his neck to hold on.  "Well, you see-"  He smiled at the little girl, nodding toward Liana.  "It's not just my cake, it's her's too.  So, I guess we better ask her if she's ready to cut it yet."

All eyes just feel on Liana. John and Siobhan along with Steve and Brook looked at her like she was making some kind of life and death decision, but then again everyone had tasted Lucy's handiwork before and she sure did one hell of a job at creating the most delicious baked goods.

Brook's attention span was normal for her age and she was now running a hand over Ben's cheek. "Furry." she said with the same tone of voice she used for her doggie. "Just like Christmas." Which was of course,  the doggies name.

Ben didn't understand the reference to 'Christmas', but he laughed at Brook's tone of voice, actually enjoying the attention he was getting from the child.  Not for the first time, he wondered how it would feel to hold one of his own.  To be responsible for loving and taking care of a child.  Would he be up to it?

Tearing herself away from the enjoyment of watching Ben and the little girl, Liana felt everyone looking at her.  "I guess we'd better see about cutting the cake.  Everyone's looking at me impatiently.  Must mean they're hungry."

Still holding Brook, Ben said, "Then, let's get on it, woman.  The sooner we get that cake cut, the sooner everyone can start dancin'."

After talking with Dan Evans, Jeffrey and Meggie headed over to mingle with some more of the guests.  There were so many people calling the Glen home now, and they wanted to meet and talk with as many as possible.

"Hungry?"  Meggie asked, taking Jeffrey's large hand.

"Yes.  I've heard many of the guests raving about the food and how delicious it all tastes.  How about we get something to eat?" Jeffrey asked, his eyes drawn to the long table of assorted cheese spreads; vegetable and fruit trays; and other hot and cold appetizers.

"I'd like to congratulate the bride and groom before we eat, silly."  Meggie noticed the couple talking with some more guests and decided to wait until Ben and Liana were available.

"Well then...I'll just have a little something right now to help sustain me through this predicament," Jeffrey whispered into her ear, causing her to giggle.  His arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her back against his chest.

The warmth and protective feel of his arms around her caused Meggie to smile even more.  "Why, Jeffrey Wigand!"  she uttered, blushing slightly.

"None of that, now," Ben said sternly, grinning at the couple, as he and Liana came over.  "I'm reservin' all that for myself today, bein' the groom an' all!"

"Dr. Wigand, right?"  He held out his hand to Jeffrey.

Meggie pulled away from Jeffrey, hoping her face didn't seem as red as it felt.  Jeffrey smiled immediately, appreciating the man before him.  He knew very little, but what he had seen and heard...Ben Wade was a man who stood up for what he believed in, had a strong sense of honor and integrity, in addition to doing whatever he had to protect those closest to him.

"Jeffrey, please," he said, offering his hand to Ben and smiling at Liana.

"Sorry about that," Meggie said, giving Jeffrey a dirty look and then chuckling.  "We wanted to express how beautiful and lovely the wedding ceremony was, along with the decorations in the church and the reception.  Congratulations to you both.  And Liana, I love your gown!  I had to tackle a few people to get a seat near the aisle as I love getting a close view of the bride."

"Thank you," Liana said, laughing.  "I hope you didn't have to tackle too many!"

"Them decorations you like were done by Mrs. Meredius 'n Ahnna," Ben told her.  They did a beautiful job, 'specially since I didn't give 'em a lotta notice."

"I'll make sure to let both Mrs. Meridius and Ahnna know how lovely a job they did. Beautiful selection and color choices, too.  Actually, I lucked out and found an empty seat."  She paused to study the couple before her.  They were a strong match, and the love burning inside for each just glowed on both their faces.

"Meggie, go ahead," Jeffrey spoke suddenly, interrupting her thoughts.  "Mr. Wade, I'm hoping you can help us out with something."

"Not now, Jeffrey.  They just got married and have a honeymoon to enjoy together."   Smiling, Meggie looked at both Bed and Liana before explaining.  "Um, Mr. Wade, I've heard about your ranch.  We spoke with Dan Evans earlier, who said you could help me.  I'm interested in purchasing a horse."

Always happy to talk about his horses, Ben's attention was caught immediately.  "Absolutely, Miss," he replied to Meggie, with a smile.

"You got any experience with horses?"

"Oh, please call me Meggie.  Well...no.  Rode a few ponies as a child, dreaming about the day I could have my own horse.  But I'm eager to learn as much as I need to in order to properly care and manage my horse."  Meggie felt slightly embarrassed, knowing Ben to be an an expert rider, and hoped it didn't show too much in her voice or face.

Liana could tell that Meggie was a little uncomfortable admitting she didn't know very much.  "I didn't know a thing about horses until I met Ben," she said, trying to put the other girl more at ease.  "I'm still far from being an expert, but I'm learning."

"You been doin' a good job, darlin'," Ben told her with a grin.  "I'm glad to hear you're willin' to learn," he said to Meggie.  "Some people think all they gotta do is get on an' ride.  There's a little more to it than that."

"How about you, Wigand?" he asked Jeffrey.  "You do any ridin'?"

"Well, I always knew it would take a lot of time and hard work, both caring for your horse and learning how to ride.  But I'm eager to learn if anyone will teach."  Meggie smiled back at Ben and Liana.  She noticed how Ben had lovingly grinned at his bride after she mentioned not knowing how to ride, either.  "Looks like you have the best teacher around, Liana," Meggie added with a blushing grin.

Jeffrey chuckled.  "No, I've never been on a horse.  Don't think this old body could stand up to all the bumps and falls it would endure learning.  But," he turned to Meggie, "this one would forever be grateful if you could help her anyway."

"Liana, I've heard how lovely and large your ranch is.   I bet you two have some beautiful trails for riding."  Meggie's heart ached somewhat, knowing Jeffrey wouldn't share this experience with her.

"Oh, we do!" Liana exclaimed.  "I'll show you some of them when you come over.    And Jeffrey, you're never too old to learn to ride.  Really.  If you want to come with Meggie, you're more than welcome."  She'd seen the look on Meggie's face, and knew the other woman would enjoy it more if Jeffrey were there.

"Oh, good!  I can't wait.  Maybe we can get together sometime after you two get back from your honeymoon.  But no hurry, of course.  You two have more important things to do,"  Meggie answered, grinning.

"Thank you, Liana.  I just might tag along and watch."  Jeffrey wrapped his arm around Meggie, squeezing her.  Upon his touch, she looked at him, hope sparkling in her blue eyes.

Richie and Toni had been through the food table and were back at the drinks table.
"Andy have you got Ben's whiskey?" asked Richie
"Yeah not that he's been able to get to it," Andy laughed indicating the crowd around Ben and Liana.
"Well pour him one, I'm going to make friends," he grinned.
Richie carried the drink followed by Toni over to where Ben and Liana were standing, Toni had a glass of champagne for Liana in case she needed fortifying.
"you're looking awfully thirsty there Wade," Richie said quietly slipping Ben a drink

Ben gave Richie a grateful look, as he took the shot glass.  "Roberts, you just earned every penny 'a that retainer I paid you.  And maybe a bonus besides!"  He threw the whiskey back in one gulp.

"When I was plannin' this weddin', I didn't realize I'd have to personally speak to every person in attendance."  Ben glanced quickly at Liana.  "Not that I mind, but it sure as hell does  make a man thirsty!"

"Thanks,Toni."  Liana gave her matron of honor a quick hug, and took the glass of champagne.  "And thanks for everything else.  I wouldn't have made it through this, if you hadn't been here to help me."

"It hasn't been that long I was in the same spot you're in Wade getting married tends to make a man thirsty," Richie looked at Toni who gave him a nudge in his ribs.
"I'm not sure what that means Richie, you would have come through just fine without me Liana but I'm happy to have been a part of it." Toni looked at Ben, "you came out smellin' like a rose didn't you Ben and here I thought Liana would brain you with her bouquet."
"She's not as vicious as you are Toni," Richie said slipping his arm around her waist.
"It was lovely Liana I'm so happy for you," Toni hugged Liana again and Ben too.

Kyle finished a plate of food and moved down to the drinks table, he'd been standing back watching the crowd and except for one strange dude he didn't see a threat to Travis.
"Kyle isn't it?" asked Andy
"Yeah that's me let me have a beer,"
"You working today?" Andy opened a beer and poured it into a glass
"Oh yeah...always working I got a 24/7 job."
"I think you've got a tame crowd today," Andy smiled
"Could be...who is that bloke with the lavender lady?"
"Oh that's Sid...keeps pretty much to himself...that' s his new wife with him."
"Hmmm...strange dude." observed Kyle
"Yeah well he's different."
"You got that right...ta Andy," Kyle moved away from the table watching Sid.

Sid was always aware of everything around him and so covertly watched Kyle watching him. The man seemed like some sort of bodyguard for that Travis person. He sniffed. How weak it seemed to him that anyone should be so frail in their person as to need their body guarded. As the man moved more closely toward him, Sid paused and looked openly at him. "I presume it is my suit and not my wife that is the object of your scrutiny?"

Kate tensed up a bit, reminded of how Colin used to get quite upset whenever he thought another man was looking at her. Her brow furrowed, and she leaned in closer to Sid, hoping there wasn't about to be any trouble between him and the large man.

Kyle didn't  like his attitude but hey everybody was entitled, "I was just thinking what a striking couple you make," Kyle smiled broadly.

"Well, that's true," Sid replied, unbristling. The man obviously had discernment despite his unkempt appearance. "I don't believe I've seen you in the Glen before," Sid continued.

What a prickly pear Kyle thought getting a good look at him, "I don't get into town very often," Kyle said giving nothing away and missing nothing.

"You're not missing much," Sid rejoined. "Nothing really ever happens in the village." Indeed, he wondered how much longer he'd find it amusing at all.

"Other than weddings and funerals and murders I'd have to agree with you," Kyle

stated sipping his beer. Kyle finally noticed the suit...Armani he recognized

but unlike the Armani suit that Travis wore this one seemed to wear the man. He

smiled at Kate, "I'm Kyle Corvin by the way."

Oh yes, there was that terrible murder recently," Kate added, hesitantly. She wasn't sure of what to make of Kyle yet.

He seemed to have taken a disliking to her husband, it seemed. "Of course, we were away during that awful turn of events, thankfully."

"Yeah that was a nasty business, I read where you two recently got married...congratulations." Kyle wondered why she was so defensive.

Sid was glad they'd been away. With all the hostility toward him in this village, he wouldn't have been surprised if suspicion were cast on him. "Nasty business, indeed, from what I hear. We were in Sydney at the time, or was that India, or possibly Morocco?"  He shrugged. "I was showing her all her houses."

Kate was pleased to hear that Kyle had read about their marriage in the paper. She smiled and replied, "Why thank you so much. Oh yes, the houses are simply... breathtaking! I still can't believe my husband here owns such incredibly works of art. Then again, he is a pretty incredible man." She smiled up at Sid, as the events of their trip replayed in her mindseye.

Kyle wasn't quite sure what to make of this pair, the woman was obviously so impressed with her husband's wealth she failed to see the thing he saw in his eyes when he first spoke to Sid, the man had no soul and was therefore dangerous.
Though he adopted an air of nonchalance and boredom Kyle understood his awareness. " With so much real estate I'm surprised you'd settle here in The Glen a rather tame place for you Sid."

"Yes, it is tame," Sid agreed. "But it is, for now, my little experiment in...neighborliness. It's quite a change for me, I assure you, but it has had the happy result of leading me to my delightful wife." He slid his arm a little further around Kate's small waist. "And now it is time for us to be off. I'm sure you'd like to observe the traditional cutting of the cake, wouldn't you, Katherine?"  Dipping his head slightly toward Kyle (the General did that and Sid had always rather liked the gesture), he moved away, taking Kate with him. One could only spend just so much time in the company of clods, after all.

Kyle waited until he had moved on and chuckled to himself. Such self importance...now what was Travis getting himself into.

"Oh yes, I'd love to, Sid," Kate replied, happily, as Sid led her towards where everyone had gathered around the cake. She couldn't help but wonder if Ben would be so uncouth as to actually shove the bite of cake into Liana's face or would prove to be more of a gentleman and place it gently in her open mouth. The thought of it all, though, made Kate giggle to herself, though, as she began to imagine what she'd like to do with Sid...naked....with all that cake frosting.... Surely Sid must have noticed her expression, because he cocked an eyebrow at her and grinned slightly.

"I hear you thinking," Sid whispered in her ear. "We might be able to come up with some icing later." Of course he meant for her to put on him, not the other way 'round. "This seems to be taking quite a while," he frowned. "How long does it take to stick a knife through a trumped-up confection?"

Kate giggled. "I know, you'd think between the two of them they'd be able to figure out how to work a knife!"

"Well, if they don't hurry, I might have to find a nice field to have my way with you in."

He was glad when Wade finally made a loud announcement that the cake was now being cut. It wasn't that he wanted to eat and run, he just wanted to run. Well, not that exactly. He wanted to get Katherine home and in his bed. Walking around for so long with his arm around her waist was really starting to get to him. Even now he let his palm slide down a bit, curving over her finely-formed hip. Ah, he shouldn't have done that! "Cake be damned," he whispered urgently in her ear. "We need to leave...now!"

"Wha...?" Kate began, a bit startled by Sid's sudden urgent tone, then smiled when she realized what he was thinking. "Cake is overrated, anyway," Kate purred in his ear, then nibbled on his earlobe and grinned. As much as she wanted a slice of the cake, she wanted her husband more.

Richie was making another pass down the food table having been told by Toni she was not cooking dinner. He saw Jim Braddock filling a plate.
"Hey Jim get moved in the new house?"

Looking up, Jim recognized Richie. "Well if your asking if all out stuff is in there. Yes. But it is everywhere. I had no idea I had that much stuff and then there is all of Ivy's things. But we have almost no furniture and nothing is put away. You should have seen us looking for my suit earlier. I'm surprised we made the ceremony at all."

Richie grinned remembering their first week in their new home, "it can be a little traumatic for awhile...realizing you can't even find a pair of socks. Toni says the grocery is about ready to open she's looking forward to that"

"About a week and a half until it opens. Ivy says there are some deliveries and inspections yet. But she has a few days until all that happens, meanwhile she is trying to get the house in some order before her uncle arrives. She doesn't want him to stay at Millie's since we have guest rooms but we don't even have beds in them yet. I think she is trying to do too much."

Tell her to call Toni I'm sure she'd love to help, she doesn't work every day. I'm about to take a couple of weeks off, my son is flying out next week and I've got to find something for him to do." Richie munched a carrot stick, "oh ask Ivy to talk to Travis McGee he runs a cattle ranch and has his own meat packing plant outside of Coffs...says he's got killer steaks and he's looking for  distributors."

"Will do. Travis McGee, I'll have her call him. I should get this plate over to her. She isn't feeling too well, I'm hoping eating something will make her feel better. See ya round Richie."

"Yeah see ya Jim, I hope Ivy's okay."

Travis, having pissed off Dan realized his glass was empty and walked over to the drinks table.
"I'll have the other half," he said to Andy.
Andy refilled his glass and handed it to him. Travis turned and saw Kyle standing alone now and smiling to himself.
"Stayin' out of trouble?" he asked sipping his drink
"Oh yeah, just talking to that bloke with the lavender lady. Seriously Travis you don't want to start something with him."
"I'm not looking to start anything anywhere."
Kyle rolled his eyes, what about Evans?"
"Aw I was just having a bit of fun he's eat up with jealously over Libby."
Travis looked around and spotted Toni Roberts, he hadn't met her yet only her husband. She was pulling glasses out of boxes near the cake table.
"Hi," he said smiling
"Hi yourself...do I know you?" Toni knew she didn't
"I'm Travis McGee and you're Toni."
"Am I...how do you know that?"
"I met your husband before the ceremony," sipping his drink
Toni straightened up with the last two glasses and set them down on the table. "I see you have a drink."
"Ah and you don't...what are you drinking...it's on me," he smiled again.
"Chardonay," she smiled back flirting a little herself..
He was back in a moment with her glass of wine, "Thanks Travis."
"So how long have you been married?" he asked
"Three months," she replied.
"Do you like it?" he asked his eyes twinkling.
"Very much," Toni answered, "and you...you're not married?"
"Not yet," he sighed, "maybe never." he met her eyes for a moment and looked away. He moved a little closer to her to let somebody by him.
Damn he smelled good she thought, "never say never Travis."
"Richie says you're a physical therapist," he sipped his drink
"Yes I am over at the clinic,"
"I might come by some time," he ventured.
"Why do you need therapy?"
"I probably do," he grinned.
"Bring your doctor's prescription," Toni met his eyes.
Richie left the food table and happened to see Travis talking to Toni and walked over.
Giving Travis a light pat on the back, "I see you've met my wife?"
"Yes I have," Travis turned, "and a very sweet wife she is...you're a lucky man Richie."
"I know...there's a young lad looking for his uncle over in the vegetable section," Richie replied.
"That would be Tee, it's nice to have met you Toni...Richie see ya around,"  Travis  went in search of Tee and passing by Kyle, "get me to Sydney," he said not stopping. Kyle smiled and took out his phone.

Zack Grant pulled into town a bit after nightfall and decided to find a hotel or inn to crash for the night.

As luck would have it, however, the only inn he seemed to find in this little community known as The Glen,

was closed for the evening, as was the Tavern, and all the shops.

"What the fuck?" he wondered to himself, as he got back into his car and drove on down the road, passing

darkened houses all along the way. "This is supposed to be a new community here, so where the fuck IS

everyone?"

Finally, he found the answer he was looking for, as he passed by what looked like the town's chapel... what looked

like must surely have been the entire community of people were all having some sort of celebration out on the chapel

grounds. Tents were set up all around, and he could hear music and laughter filling the air as crowds of people milled about.

"What the hell," he chuckled, pulling into a parking spot. "Hopefully, there's an open bar."

Zack ran his fingers through his tangled mass of hair, tucked in his shirttails, and made his way over to the party, hoping no one would mind he didn't exactly have an invite.

Alistair watched the man coming across the lawn toward the reception.
This was someone he'd never seen in the Glen before so he stepped
forward, smiled, and said,
"Good afternoon. I'm Alistair Harris. I'm glad you could make it to the
reception even if you missed the wedding. There's plenty of food." He
offered his hand.

Zack had hoped to slip in unnoticed, so when this man suddenly stepped out of the crowd and not only acknowledged that he was obviously a stranger here, but welcomed him to join in all the same, took him by surprise.

"Thanks. Zack Grant.... nice to meet you, Alistair." He smiled and extended his hand in return, shaking Alistair's hand firmly. "I didn't mean to crash your party here. Just got into town, hoping to find a place to crash for the night, and found that, well, the whole town is...here."

"That is true," Alistair chuckled, "just about the whole town is here. We're a small place so a wedding is a real community thing. And don't worry about 'crashing' , as you called it. No one will see it that way. Everybody is new and we're all still just getting to know eachother. You'll simply be one more to get to know."

When he noticed Zack eyeing the church, he added, "I'm the pastor here. We only have the one church so everything that needs to happen in a church happens right here."  Looking back across the lawn, he continued, "Seems like everybody's gathering in the general area of the wedding cake. That means the other food tables will be free and clear." He smiled. "A good time to fill a plate."
.

The town's pastor...that made sense why he was being so friendly then, Zack thought to himself as he smiled and nodded to the man.

"Thanks again for your hospitality, Alistair. I appreciate it. If the rest of this town is as friendly as you, I might just end up sticking around a bit," Zack told him, as he headed off towards the food table. .

After Zack had walked away to help himself to some food, Alistair
noticed Cort leaning against the side of the church and so
headed over there. "Hello, Cort," he greeted, "have you had anything to
eat yet?"

"Piece of chicken, thanks," Cort nodded. "I'm not much for minglin' just
yet. Kind of awkward with the questions people ask."

"I understand," Alistair smiled. "Well, you can talk with me. I promise
no awkward questions."

"You know, though. You know I don't have any answers."

"Some day, Cort, when it's time. The answers will come. I'm sure of it."
He knew Cort remembered. In his dreams he remembered.

Cort shook his head. "Hope so. Would make a big difference, a really big
difference."

"It's like faith, Cort. We walk to the edge of all the light we have and
then we take one more step. That's faith. Right now that's
where you're walking, there in the darkness. But the light will come again."

Cort smiled back at Alistair. "You're in the right business, you know."

"You may be in it, too. We'll find that out one of these days."

Cort clasped his hands in front of his belt buckle, looking down at
them. "Sometimes, Alistair, I'm not so sure I want to know."

From the things Alistair knew Cort dreamed about, it was no wonder. "We
remember when we can bear to remember."

Cort rubbed one thumb over the other. "That's what I mean."

Liana took Ben's hand, leading him for a change as they made their way over to the table holding the beautiful wedding cake. Andy and Lucy had really outdone themselves. Ben was still holding Brook and, reluctantly, passed her off to Steve, promising to hold her again later.

"Okay!" Ben's big voice boomed out over the crowd. "We're about to dig into this cake that everyone's been askin' about all afternoon! So everybody gather round!"

As they waited, Toni made sure there were glasses of champagne for them to toast each other, and plates for the cake. Ben was rolling his eyes at Richie over the fuss the women were making.

"Get used to it Wade," Richie said laughing, nodding to himself Richie thought Ben was actually enjoying all the fuss.

When the announcement was made, Arthur turned to Amanda, "Looks like they're finally cutting the cake, Amanda... let's move in to get a closer look."

"Oh lets do I love wedding cakes don't you?" Amanda took his arm.

"Oh yes," agreed Arthur, leading Amanda towards the crowd that had gathered around the cake. "Especially one of Lucy's."

"Have you been in her bakery...it's heavenly...I promised Johnny a piece of cake maybe Lucy will stash it for me. Oh there's Auntie come to have a look. Auntie, you remember Arthur?"

"Of course Arthur, how are you...lovely cake." Miss Peeg observed smiling.
.

"Oh fine, fine, thanks for asking," replied Arthur, happily. "Just been keeping your lovely niece here company tonight since poor Johnny couldn't be here."

"That's very nice of you Arthur I'm sure Amanda is grateful," she looked at her niece.
"Oh yes I am, we seemed to be the only single ones here, Arthur is a gentleman."
.

Arthur blushed slightly. "It's my pleasure, really. A girl as nice and pretty as Amanda shouldn't be left all alone at a party like this, I'm sure Johnny would agree. Speaking of single blokes, Miss Peeg, I couldn't help but notice you chatting with that ruffian Hando after Marce's funeral the other day. Do be careful, he looks to be a bit...um...dangerous."

Miss Peeg widened her eyes, "oh but not to me...no Hando and I understand each other. He's not been seen since the funeral and I do worry about him. Mr. Roberts has forbade me to look for him," she bit her lip Miss Peeg had an idea where he was...and if by some chance she should find herself in that area...well.

"That's very good advice from Mr. Roberts, Auntie," Amanda said knowing that look on her Aunt's face. "I shouldn't want anything to happen to you."

Arthur nodded in agreement, quite concerned for her safety. "Yes, you should definitely heed what Mr. Robert's says there, Miss Peeg. It would be a shame if something should happen to you while you're out searching for that ruffian. If not for your own safety, think of your dear niece's here."

Ashley was having such a good time. She felt like a girl enjoying life again. Not working hard to put a house in order and spending half a day or more with morning sickness.

Lachlan was grinning ear to ear. He was having a great time. The two of them really were both very social and loved a good party. This was quite a happy one. It helped to dispell some of the fear and sadness from the murder.

"Oh, Lach. Would you get me a nice healthy sized piece of that cake." She smiled prettily at him and fluttered her eyelashes.

It got him every time. The woman had him wrapped around her little finger. She was so happy today. And eating like a horse which was bonzer. Though if he told her that, she'd slap him on the arm. His sheila. His bride. His wife. The mother of his baby.

"You got it, Ash. Be right back, love." Lach kissed her cheek and glanced back as he walked toward the table where the cake was being cut. Ashley had her hand gently over belly. She was doing that more lately. He grinned and greeted some other wedding guests gathered for cake.

"Ashley?" Bridgid stopped on her way to get another drink for Jack and herself. "Ashley Curry is that you? Hey, girl you look simply gradient. I guess that horseback riding trip is on the back burner for now." she chuckled. "I am so jealous of you. One of these day's I'll have a little sailor on the way. Someday. How are you feeling?"

"Hi, Bridgid." Ashley smiled at her friend. "Thank you." She beamed from her compliment. She hadn't felt very radiant of late.

"Sit down and chat with me for a moment if you can. I think the horse back riding will have to wait for at least..." She calculated in her head. "Seven more months for it to be six weeks after birth. Then we'll have the ride together. It will be fun."

"I'm feeling very well today. And better each day it seems. Lachlan is getting some cake for us. He knows I'm tiring out quickly right now."

"You're looking very happy yourself, Bridgid. Something has changed. Do share. It would be wonderful for my little aviator to grow up close in age to your little sailor."

"Alright. I'll spill."she replied excitedly "Jack and I are getting married! For real and I can't tell you how happy I am to finally be able to call myself Mrs. Aubrey. Or course we have not set a date yet and I'm not thinking we'll have anything as big as Ben and Liana's wedding but we'll surely invite everyone and I've been thinking we should do it on the beach since we both love the sea so much. What do you think? Barefoot in the sand?"

Ashley clapped her hands together in excitement. "You're getting married to your Captain Aubrey?" Bridgid nodded.

"That is so wonderful and exciting, Bridgid." She leaned over and gave her a hug.

"The beach would be very nice. Romantic. Hand in hand as you stroll across the sand." Ashley sighed.

"Oh, Bridgid. We both have so much to do. You have a wedding to plan and I have a nursery to set up. I know you haven't set a date yet, but it's never to early to start planning. Dress, flowers, pictures to name a few. I'd be glad to help. We should get together for lunch."

"It's a date! How about this, since you can't ride but you do enjoy horses, lets pack a picnic and go out to the stables. I can show you Skipper and Jack's horse, we can bring some of those nice folding chairs and take in the views at the Meridius farm. Honestly, there are some cute stable hands there too." she paused to breathe. "I'm in love with Jack but I'm not dead. I still look."

"That sounds perfect, Bridgid. I love horses and don't get to spend nearly enough time around them any longer. And cute stable hands sound good." She giggled and gave Bridgid a saucy wink.

"I'm head over heals for Lach and having his baby, but the eyes still enjoy looking at fine men. Speaking of...there are plenty here today." She grinned.

"Though I might be prejudiced, but I think our two are the finest. Oh, and add Bud White to that. I adore that man in a completely brotherly sort of way. He's as doting on me as Lachlan is. Lach asked him to keep an eye on me when he's away flying. I think I'm at Marie and Bud's house as much as mine lately. I'm glad to hear you and Jack were away during that poor girl's murder."

"You have to tell me. Was it terribly romantic the way Jack asked you to marry him?" Ashley was starved for information. She felt like she'd been cloistered from civilization lately. Marie just wasn't a good source of stories or gossip.

Bridgid laughed a little. "Ashley, aside from the ad in the newspaper, I'd have to say, yeah it was romantic. It may not have worked for everyone but for me, it was perfect. We were aboard ship, then he threw me overboard for some odd reason but once we were together in the water he made it clear that he really did want to marry me. For as much as we play together like a couple of teenagers, I do love him more than you'll ever know."

"Playing like teenagers is a good thing, Bridgid. We should never forget our playfulness. And perfect and wet is wonderful." She saw Lachlan heading their way juggling several plates of cake.

"Oh, look. Cake is coming our way. I'm suddenly so hungry."

She giggled as she thought about the ad in the newspaper. "I saw the ad, Bridgid. Now you have to admit in the mind of a man, he would have thought that was a very romantic gesture. Proclaiming to our whole world..." Her arms took in the sweep of the Glen residents. "his love for his fair Bridgid. Ask Lachlan, I'll bet he thinks it was romantic. Men just are that way."

Lachlan hurried up to them and starting setting down the plates of cake on the table. He was obviously excited.

"G'day, Bridgid. Have you two heard? Millie just gave birth to a baby boy in the church. Isn't that bonzer? Just think, Ash, that will be us in a few months. I heard Maximus and the groom helped in the birth."

Ashley turned pale in an instant and laid her hand on her small belly.

"You promise me right now, Lachlan Curry. No church births for me with men standing over me when I'm, Oh My God! You promise me you'll get me to the hospital where I'm supposed to be or at least with Marie who's a trained nurse." She grabbed his tie tightly. "Promise me, Lach."

She gave a panicked look to Bridgid. Bloody men!

Bridgid understood Ashley's panic, after all her due date was coming up and the closest hospital was in Coffs.

"You've got time to plan. I think you should get started for Coffs with your first labor pain though, Lachlan, you'll need a contingency plan that goes about four deep. If you're not around and Marie is not around, who is next?I'd suggest maybe Tom Young. Jack and I will be ready if you need us too."

Lachlan nodded and took a deep breath now that he could. Ashley had released his tie and was smoothing it down. He saw her worry.

"Thanks, Bridgid. We'll make those plans and take you up on your offer." He took Ashley's hands in his.

"It's okay, love. I'll make sure no long flights near your due date. We'll get those contingency plans in place." He kissed her cheek.

Ashley took a deep breath and calmed herself. She gave a shaky smile to Lachlan and Bridgid. She handed a piece of cake to Lachlan and Bridgid.

"Okay, Lachlan. Let's eat some cake. I could use the sugar rush." She smiled wanly. "Where is Jack? Wouldn't he like some cake, Bridgid? Lach brought plenty."

"I see him now actually. He seems to have to stop and greet everyone."

Bridgid waved to Jack to get him to come over a little quicker.

"What took you so long? Did you encounter pirates?" Bridgid asked with a smile and a kiss to his cheek

"Pirates no, Siren however with a sheet or two to the wind, navigation does become more perilous." he winked  Reaching for Ashley's hand, he bent to place a kiss to her knuckle. "Madam you do appear to be in fine form. Glowing would be the proper modern day term if I am not mistaken."

Standing upright he offered a hand to Lachlan. "Mister Curry. I have not had the opportunity to congratulate you. Allow me to do it now. You are indeed blessed."

Ashley's cheeks pinkened prettily from Jack's compliment. "I am feeling very well. Thank you, Captain Aubrey." She grinned at Jack and Bridgid. Her momentary panic regarding her future delivery was pushed from her mind to be discussed with Lachlan at another time.

Lachlan beamed with happiness. He wasn't sure he'd stopped since Ashley had told him they were having a baby.

"Call me, Lachlan, Captain Aubrey. Thanks, mate. Indeed we've been blessed." He pumped Aubrey's hand in greeting.

"Oh, Lachlan. We need to offer our congratulations to Bridgid and Captain Aubrey too. They're engaged to be married. Bridgid and I have planning to do."

Ashley held out a piece of cake to Jack. "You two need to hurry up so our babies can grow up and play together." She giggled and winked devilishly to Bridgid and Jack. "Congratulations!"

"Many thinks to you both, " Jack replied. "As for children, we will rely on Mother Nature." he winked at Bridgid. "Since this day will belong to Bridgid, I will leave the planning to her and you, Miss Ashley."

"Uh huh, speaking of mother nature, Ash,. When are you due?" Bridgid asked "We have a shower to plan too you know. That should be fun."

"A baby shower? That would be so much fun, wouldn't it Lach? A wedding and a baby shower to plan." Ashley giggled at the slightly pained expression on his face. She kissed his cheek.

"Well, it will be a lot of fun for us, Bridgid. I'm due in 5 and a half months. I just passed the first trimester last week. Early September. So, the wedding can come first. We have time for me. We need to get you and Jack's marriage arranged. Jack will look so handsome and dashing and you'll look so beautiful."

Ashley grinned happily at all of them. She was truly in her element planning and arranging events and parties.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?"  Meggie asking Jeffrey.

He nodded.  "It certainly is, and I'm starving."

Laughing, Meggie took hold of his hand and joined the others gathering around the bride and groom's wedding cake.  "I hope he's gentle with the piece of cake," she said in a serious tone.

"What?"  Jeffrey asked, stunned, as he looked down into her face.

"When they bride and groom cut the cake and then feed each other.  I've seen some where they really shove it into each other's mouths...and it makes a mess."

"Hmm...I don't think Ben would do that to Liana.  He adores and loves her too much to do something like that at their wedding reception."  Jeffrey smiled, enjoying Meggie's happiness as it continued to grow from watching the wedding cermemony, and now celebrating with the bride and groom.  Despite his own failed two marriages, Jeffrey believed that such a special union still existed, could be possible for others.  He reached out and wrapped his arm around her, pulling her closer to him.  He wasn't sure of the future, but all that mattered was the here and now, with Meggie and the loving Glen community.

Toni having finished setting out glasses had turned them over to Andy who was filling them with Champagne. She saw Richie and pulled him over to stand by Meggie and Jeffrey.

"You two look like you're enjoying yourself," she smiled and leaned back in Richie's arms.

"Oh, we are.  How are you and Richie doing?  You're still newlyweds, yourselves," Meggie smiled and reached out to hug Toni.

"Richie, good to see you again," Jeffrey said, shaking hands.  "How's married life treating you?"

"Toni, how is Ivy feeling?  I haven't had the chance yet to go over and chat with her and Jim.  She looks tired, probably from all the moving and getting the new grocery set up and opened here in the Glen.  If I don't get a chance to, please let her know I'd be more than happy to help her with anything right now."

Toni hugged Meggie back, "actually today is our third month anniversary, doesn't seem like that long."
"That's right it is," Richie remembered, "well you know Jeffrey I'd reached a point in my life I was ready for marriage so I'm loving it. I talked to Jim a little while ago he thinks Ivy's trying to do too much."
"That's Ivy, nobody can do it but her...I'm going to sneak around and see her before Michael comes and surely she'll let me do something. She can be stubborn," Toni said.

"Congratulations, you two," Jeffrey commented, patting Richie on the back.

"Oh, Ivy!  I'm glad she has Jim here to take care of her.  Toni, if there is anything I can do to help, please let me know."  Meggie glanced at Jeffrey, who seemed to be in a deep conversation with Richie about something.  She chuckled, and nodding her head in the direction of the two men, said to Toni, "Hmmm.  Wonder what they're talking about?  Men...they sure can be a real mystery sometimes."

Toni laughed, "oh and forever let it remain so I wouldn't want to get in Richie's mind, Lord knows what I'd find there. Ivy will be all right you know I lived with her for a while when I first came to Jersey. She's like a whirlwind when she gets going and then it takes its toll. I'm looking forward to being able to buy a quart of milk without driving for forty-five minutes. So how's your house coming last time we talked you were still moving in."

"That's true...same with Jeffrey's mind.   I remember Ivy telling me about you staying with her in New Jersey.  She spoke highly of you and of the friendship you two share."  Meggie paused to take a sip of punch.  "Yes, it will be very nice and convenient to  have a grocery so close.   Oh, thanks for asking.  It's coming along nicely.  I've gotten almost all of my things unpacked and furniture situated.  Only took me a couple of months to accomplish," she laughed.

"It takes forever to get moved in and then you end up tearing it out. I've had decorators in creating an office for me to keep me out of Richie's stuff and I've been trying to fix up one of the guest rooms for Michael, Richie's son who is coming next week for a visit.  A little bird told me you're planning a library for The Glen."

"That sounds great.  Hey, you'll have to let me know how it turns out.  I'd like to do something with one of my guest rooms as a surprise for Jeffrey.  I've claimed one of the spare rooms as my office before Jeffrey moved in.  He'll never admit it, but I know he would love to have somewhere he can call his 'man's space.'"  She laughed, an image of Jeffrey as a cave man, just standing there inside the room and claiming it as his own.

"Yes, I'm working with Alistair concerning the library.  He has donated a nice collection of works to start the library's collection...and I'm going to try to get some funding from grants and personal loans to add more to it.  I want to have a section of material for every age and interest level, including future Glen children and young adults.  Maybe start a book club, too.  How old is Michael and will he be staying with you and Richie for long?  Does he enjoy reading?  Like sports, comics, other stuff?"  Meggie stopped, almost out of breath from talking about the library.  The project made her feel very good knowing it would bring new opportunities and open exciting worlds full of knowledge and ideas for everyone at the Glen.

"Why not?" Joimus grinned. "It's a reception, after all. Let's go receive him."

"Okay." Bridgid replied. One quick look to see that Jack and Maximus were occupied with Alistair in some kind of man bonding circle and she was off with Joi in tow. Once they reached the man she brazenly tapped him on the shoulder. "Scuse me, but I think I know you from somewhere. You ever been to Cincinnati? "

Zack was aware of the two women who were staring at him from across the way. He looked up and flashed them a smile, thinking to himself happily that such two attractive women such as that were ogling him. He decided to finish loading up his plate, and then maybe he'd go up and introduce himself. Just as he put the last bit of food on his plate, he felt the tap on his shoulder.

"Umm....no, can't say you do, sweetheart," he replied, smiling widely at the two women. "I'm sure I would have remember such a lovely..." he paused, looked her up and down and licked his lips, then continued, "...face as your's. The name's Zack Grant, by the way. And you are?"

"Bridgid Morgan , soon to be Bridgid Aubrey and this is my good friend and cousin Joi Meridus." Bridgid winked at him. "I can see you're going to be a hit with the ladies around here. You're a flirt and you're as cute as all get out. Oh, by the way, I'm pretty well known for saying what's on my mind so feel free to stop me whenever you like. You have Uncle Sam written all over you, Zack. Been to Quantico recently?"

Reaching behind her, Bridgid grabbed Joi by the arm to pull her up alongside.

"Been a while, actually," Zack replied, grinning, then popped one of the deviled eggs into his mouth. After he swallowed it, he smiled again, and said, "Nice to meet you both, Mrs. Meridius... future Mrs. Aubrey... So, who's reception have I crashed? Must be someone of importance around here to get the whole town to close up shop and turn out here."

"Oh, the whole town usually turns out for events here, Zack," Joimus ventured since Bridgid had practically hauled her to the fore. "The couple is Ben and Liana Wade...over there cutting the cake. It's nice you could come by. Do you think you might stay a while?"

Zack turned and took a quick peek at Ben and Liana... they seemed happy enough, he thought. "Jury's still out on that, ladies... but, so far, I am impressed with how friendly everyone seems to be in this little community of yours, so who knows... I might just become a permanent fixture, if all goes as planned. Speaking of which, the only inn in town seems to be closed tonight. either of you lovely ladies happen to know the owner? Don't want to spend another night in the car if I don't have to."

"Ah yes, that would be Millie and Steve. They are the owners. Steve is the one chasing the little blonde girl around and his wife Millie is the pretty woman sitting over there."

She pointed to Millie who looked nothing short of miserable. She was sitting in a chair and fanning herself.

"You're probably better off talking to Steve right now. Millie is having a baby and I don't think she's feeling up to par at the moment."

"Hmm...looks like he's pretty much got his hands full at the moment," Zack said, watching as Steve managed to grab Brooke's little fingers away before she helped herself to a handful of wedding cake. He chuckled, shook his head, then looked back at Millie, cocking one eyebrow, "Uh, yeah... looks to me like she might not make it through the night. Looks like it might be the car for me, afterall."

If Millie were not already seated she would have been on her knees. The pain she felt in her lower belly and back was so sharp she thought she was dying.

"Steeeeeeeeeeeve!" she wailed and it brought him running.

"What is it?" he asked breathlessly as he sat Brrook down on her feet.

"I think...I think...oh my gosh, my water just broke."

"You're kidding me?"

"Yeah right. I'm frigging kidding you. NOT!"

Brook started to cry "Mommy, mommy!" and Steve scooped her up again. "Mommy is okay, she is going to have a baby. We need to call an ambulance."

"Oh no you don't Steve. I can't wait that long. Help me up."

"Up?"

"Yes, up. Help me into the chapel. I'm not going to have this baby right here on the grass. No way."

Setting poor little Brook down again, he helped Millie from the chair and as she stood there was a gush of fluid from between her legs.

"Oh, I feel the head and oh...ow ow ow ..con-trac-tion!"

She slumped a little and drew her knees together.

Lucy had been keeping an eye on Mille since she got there and above the hullabaloo around the cake table she heard Mille's distress call. Running over she  picked up Brookie.
"Is she having it now? Oh Steve...Andy and I have Brookie...go...go...go"

Maximus set down the plate he was taking to the trash can. "Here, Steve, allow me to assist in getting your wife inside. I agree a little privacy is required."

"Thank you, Lucy." Steve replied. He gave a very appreciative look to Maximus.

"It's going to be alright, honey." he advised Millie but her answer kind of said otherwise.

"No its ...argh! oh oh oh! NOT, Steve. I told you we should have stayed home. Ah shit!"

"Breathe, Mil."

"I am breathing. If I weren't I'd be a nice shade of bluuuuuuuuuuuuue."

He tried to guide her into one of the pews but even with Maximus' help, Millie found her way to the floor."

"Well, one of you take a look. I know the baby is almost here. I feel ow ow ow ow , heef heef heef heef, hork hork!"

"Here we go again." Steve said. He looked at Maximus for some kind of brotherly support before he lifted Millie's dress to see what was going on. Drawing a deep breath, he opened his mouth to say something and promptly fainted."

Ben and Liana had come in right behind them.  They'd been getting ready to dance the first dance together and had seen the commotion.  Now, Ben looked at Steve with a wry grin.

"Guess he hasn't been around a stable at foalin' time," he told Maximus with a grin.  He grabbed Steve's prone form under the arms and pulled him aside, leaving him on the floor.

Leaving Steve there, Ben shrugged out of his black coat and got down on the floor next to Maximus, who was now checking Millie out and trying his best to do it respectfully.  Rolling up his sleeves, Ben said to the other man.  "Looks like the innkeeper there is gonna be a father for the second time, by the time he wakes up."

Millie would have made a comment but she howled with her next contraction. They were coming one right after the other now. Reaching forward she grabbed Ben Wade by the lapels and pulled him toward her. Her voice was something out of a horror movie as she looked him straight in the eye and said "This ain't no foal partner but if it's not out of me within the next five minutes there will be blood!"

Ben had dealt with threats plenty of times in his life before.  Loosening Millie's hands from his shirt, he said with a grin, "Ain't a bit different from a foal, darlin'.  An' I got no control over whether it's out in five minutes or five hours, so threatenin' me ain't gettin' you nowhere."

He motioned at Liana, who was looking on feeling helpless and more than a little scared.  "Honey, get down here and hold her hands, will you?"

Looking over at Maximus, who seemed to be the only other calm person in the room, he remarked, "Well, Meridius-  Seein' as how this looks to be happenin' fast, I guess it's gonna be up to you and me?  Think we're up to it?"

"I should think so," Maximus replied with a slight smile, thinking of scythe-wheeled
chariots crashing and female gladiators being sliced in half. "We will manage, I am sure.
The child was beginning to crown already, if I am not mistaken."

"Somebody wanna get us towels, tablecloths, somethin' like that?" Ben asked the onlookers.  "Can't believe we're the only ones around here knows anythin' about this," he said to Maximus.  "Every woman in the Glen must be here today an' we're the ones deliverin' a baby!"

Looking over at Liana, who was squeezing Millie's hands and murmuring to her, Ben noticed that white, scared look on her face.  "It's gonna be fine, darlin'," he told her.  "I never done this with a human baby before, but it'll be fine."

"Okay, Maximus," he said, "Which part of this you wanna do?"

Oh God, someone give me something for the pain, please. The humanity. I hate men!"

With the next contraction, Millie sat up and pulled her hands away from Liana's. She saw her husband supine on the floor and called over to him. "If you ever wake up, you'll never touch me again. " Then she made some sort of animal sound. There was grunting, groaning and squealing.

The newborns shoulders were now visible and one arm. It wouldn't be long before the Glen residents sign had to be changed to one more.

Maximus had gone to the linen closet by the church bathroom and brought back an armful of towels. "Swaddling," he announced, handing an open towel
to Ben, who was holding the baby. "A wedding and a delivery all in one afternoon, Ben. You are a busy man."

"Yeah, well-," Ben voice was deadpan, even though he was speaking loudly over Millie's wails.  "Wouldn't want life to get borin' here in the outback, now would we?  I'm gonna need somethin' to cut the cord."

The relief Millie felt after the boy was out an in Ben's arms was overwhelming. She closed her eyes for just one moment to feel the peace that blanketed her now.

"It's a boy right. Please, let me hold my son, Ben. I knew it all along, I knew he was going to be a boy...and I don't know how to thank you and Maximus for helping us."

Steve began to stir, finally. He sat up and asked "What just happened?"

Having cleaned the baby a little and wrapped him in a large towel, Ben was now cradling the lustily crying infant.  He smiled at the child and then over at Liana.  She was touched by the look on his face.  So Ben Wade could go all soft over a baby.  That was good to know.

Finally, Ben answered Steve.  "You just had yourself a fine son, while you were doin' nothin' but layin' around sleepin'," he told him.  "Hope you intend to be a little more involved in the kid's life than you have been so far."

Steve glanced over at Ben but the sound of his son's sweet little cries drew every thought from his mind except the fact that he was a dad one more time.

"Millie! Baby! You did it again, honey."

"So did you, Steve. You passed out again."

"I know, Mil. I'm sorry." he said as he moved over beside her. "I'd never make it as a doctor."

Touching the boys head, he placed a kiss there then he shared a tender one with his wife. That bonding moment had to occur before he could give credit where credit was due.

"Ben, Maximus. Thank's for being here for us. I ain't much at blood and guts but you don't have to worry about me being a good father to him. He's beautiful just like his mom and our daughter. Thank you so much."

Lucy had been carrying Brook on her hip and plying her with wedding cake to keep her occupied when the word came down from the church that the baby was here and it was a boy she hoisted her a little higher on her hip and said, "Brookie you have a baby brother a little boy."
Since Brookie had been crying off and on for her mother she walked up to the church door with Brook and peeked in now that the worst was over she wanted Brook to know her mother was all right.

"Mommy!" Brook called as she slipped from Lucy's arms. She ran over to see her parents and the new addition to the family.

"What's brothers name?" she asked innocently.

Steve looked at Millie for a moment and her smile answered his question.

"His name, " Steve replied  "..is Benjamin Maximus Moran."

Maximus' eyes widened and his lips parted slightly. "I am honored," he said, his voice low. "Most honored."

People were  milling around the chapel now, offering the congratulations. Bridgid was one of them. She was so pleased to see that everything was okay. The day was wearing on and people were starting to leave now. She thought it might be a good time to find Jack and head home, but something unexpected happened. As she made her way to the chapel doors she heard s woman call out. "Woo hooo!" and just as she turned to see who it was, the wedding bouquet fell into her hands.

"What the? Hey, how bout this?  I caught the bouquet. I'm next! And Jack thought he was the Lucky one."

Andy walked carefully balancing the large tray with filled champagne glasses up to the church door.
"Heads up! He called out loudly...we have to wet the baby's head!" Glasses disappeared from the tray but Lucy grabbed two for her and Andy to toast. Lucy eyed the bouquet in Bridgid's hand...would she and Andy ever get married?

Ben, meanwhile, had been trying to hide how pleased he was at the baby's name, but Liana saw it easily enough. Taking a glass of champagne and handing it to him, she said, "We have to drink to little Ben."

Taking the glass, Ben grimaced. He hated champagne. Would much rather have a shot of his favorite whiskey, but he took the glass gamely.

After the toast, he grinned at Liana. "I think I hear our chariot arriving, Mrs. Wade. You ready for your second honeymoon?"

Blushing a little, she answered, "Whenever you are."

"She's having the baby where?" Toni asked putting her wine glass down.
"They carried her to the chapel Toni, Maximus and Steve and then I saw Ben Wade go in," Lucy said round eyed holding Brookie.
"Oh my goodness, Richie Millie's having her baby in the church," Toni started running toward the chapel and saw Liana go in.
Standing in the doorway she could hardly belive her eyes, there was the groom, shirtsleeves rolled up and General Meridius delivering Millie and Steve's baby.
Miss Peeg arrived with Amanda, "What is it?"
"Don't know yet," Toni said, "waiting to hear."
"This is amazing...a wedding and a birth in the same church," Amanda said smiling ear to ear.

Ahnna and Alistair were helping to gather up some of the trash that had fallen into the churchyard when they heard Zack's statement.

"Who is that?" Ahnna asked.

"Zack Grant. He's new here and was going to stay at the Inn if he could make arrangements." His eyes followed where Maximus and Steve were helping Millie inside
the church. "Doesn't look like the innkeepers will have all that much free time this evening, though."

"Millie's baby? It's going to be born in the church?" She smiled. "I kind of like that."  Her gaze turned back to the bearded man by the food table. "He could stay with us."

She walked up close to Zack. "Hello. I'm Ahnna Harris, Alistair's wife. I couldn't help but overhear that you had no place to stay tonight. You might consider staying at the parsonage."  She looked up at Alistair. "I know we don't have an extra bedroom fixed up yet, but there's that couch in your office."  Looking back at Zack she added,"If you wouldn't
mind sleeping on a couch, that is."

"Sure beats sleeping in the car," replied Zack, grinning at her. "Thanks for your hospitality.... Ahnna, was it?"

"Yes, Ahnna." She smiled welcomingly.

"Well, Zack," Alistair grinned, "when there's no accomodation for the night in the Inn, I guess the parsonage is the next best thing. We'll be glad to have you. It's not far, either, so just follow us when it's time to go, all right?"

"Great, thanks again, Alistair...Ahnna... I promise I'll be no trouble, won't even know I'm there."

Colin led Abby over to the crowd that had gathered around Ben & Liana, who were now

busily posing for pictures in front of the wedding cake before they cut into it.

Abby smiled happily, watching the couple, thinking how much in love the two seemed to be,

and wondering to herself if she'd ever be lucky enough to find such love as that.

She let out a soft sigh as Colin wrapped both his arms around her from behind and she

let her body sink into his. "Who knows," Abby thought to herself, "maybe THIS could be THE ONE."

As Colin stood watching the bride and groom fuss over the cake, wondering when they'd hurry up

and cut the bloody thing so he could eat it already and hopefully get his date back to his place

for the real dessert, he happened to catch a glimpse of Sid and Kate over to the side. Sid was

draped all over her, whispering in Kate's ear, and she was eating it up, it appeared.

"Bloody wanker," he mumbled under his breath, hoping no one heard him.

As Sid turned to lead Kate to his white car, he noticed Colin's antagonistic stare and deliberately
kept up his whispering in her ear, carefully directing their path in somewhat of a curve to take them
closer to the mechanic. Kate was so distracted she didn't notice what he was doing. He liked that
about her, too. When he was within clear earshot, he raised the level of his voice, "...and then, when
I get this lavender dress off, we'll see what fun we can have with the garters."

"Fuckin' tosser," Colin grumbled again, a bit louder this time, hoping Sid had heard him this time.

"What's that?" Abby asked, then turning her heard, noticed Sid and Kate passing by. "Oh, yeah, them," she snorted.

"He might as well just undress her here, not like she'd care," Colin spat. His muscles tensed up as he noticed Sid's sideway glance and bit of a grin at him. Abby noticed Colin's reaction, too, and wasn't too pleased.

"Colin, just let it go. You know he's only trying to get your goat, sweetheart. Don't play his game. Besides, I thought you were over her? If you want to keep dating me, I sure hope you are."

Was he...over her? He wanted to be, knew he should be, and Abby was with him now, so why get so upset about...what? Those two showponies? He let out a sigh, kissed Abby on the cheek. "Sweetheart, trust me, there's no one else in the world I'd rather be here at this wedding with than you."

Abby smiled, wrapped her arms around him. "Well, good, then that's settled. Now, get me a piece of that delicious looking cake and I'll make you forget all about Sid and Kate."

Colin grinned and kissed Abby on the lips. "Deal."

_ Sarah had been watching Travis back and forth to the drinks table and as far as she knew he had not eaten a thing, the drinks were beginning to show and she walked over to him as he was getting yet another glass.
"Travis, have you eaten anything?"
Travis hadn't spoken to his mother since she had insulted Jan and sent her running back to Sydney. "Leave me alone," he said quietly.
"You need to eat Travis not drink."
He started to say something to her but Miss Peeg walked over,"hello," she said,"I've met your mother Sarah and your father and nephew but I don't believe we've met, I'm Winnie Peeg."
Travis turned on a blinding smile, "and I'm Travis."
"It's very nice to meet you, I talked with Mr. Corvin when you came into the office to see Mr. Roberts."
"Oh...okay that's where I've seen you...you work for Richie."
"Yes," she noticed Sarah shrugged and walked back to her seat beside Bill. "You have a very nice family Mr. McGee."
"Call me Travis...thank you."
"I was wanting to ask...the young man who lived in the cabin on your property...you haven't seen him around there have you?"
"No...I haven't seen him since the funeral...I did tell him he could stay there and we'd work something out later about rent...I don't think he was interested." Travis wondered what this woman could have to do with Hando.
"Is he a friend of yours?" he asked
"Well...it's rather complicated...I'm not sure that word would exactly fit...I do care what happens to him." Miss Peeg watched him sip his drink for a moment, "would you like for me to get you a plate...some food maybe?" she smiled.
Travis wondered if it was that evident, "that would be nice of you Winnie...I don't usually drink this much at social functions...just feeling a little lonesome today."
"You're not married Travis?" she asked
"No," he smiled, "but I'm taken...in fact Winnie...hold the food...I got a plane to catch...thanks for reminding me what I need to do." He surprised her with a quick kiss on the cheek and turned looking for Kyle who was coming around the church...his taxi was there.
Miss Peeg walked over to talk to Amanda and Arthur looking back at Travis as he wound his way throught the crowd.

_._,_.___

Realizing he had not met nor congratulated the bride and groom, Travis made his way through the crowd and stopped waiting until he could say a word. Seeing a break he stepped forward.
"G'day I'm Travis McGee we haven't met but I wanted to congratulate you both it was a nice wedding and I've enjoyed meeting some of my neighbors, I live out on Glenridge Station."

"McGee," Ben greeted him heartily, shaking his hand.  "Been wantin' to meet you.  Hear you're runnin' beeves on your spread.  That's somethin' I thought I might get into later on."

"It's very nice to meet you, Mr. McGee," Liana told him.  "I hope you're enjoying the party."

"I've been enjoyin' it a bit too much," Travis grinned, "yeah we're running about 300 head right now its a mixed lot I've added some Angus and am tryin' to pick up a piece of land that borders on my east side...hoping to increase the herd next year."

"I'm in the process of pickin' up some extra acreage myself," Ben told him.  "Can't have too much is my thinkin'!  Maybe I could talk to you sometime about startin' up with cattle?"

"Sure mate we can do that, I've got my own packin' plant between here and Coffs, some damn good steaks come out of it. Once everything settles down for me I'm going to have a steak on the barbie  and invite the good people of The Glen. And speakin' of settling down I got a taxi waitin' out front to take us to the airport...I'm going to see my lady tonight." Travis smiled at Liana.

Returning his smile, Liana said, "Then, don't let us keep you waiting.  Perhaps when you come back, you and she could come to visit."

Winking at him, Ben said,  "Yeah.  It don' do to keep a woman waitin' too long.  I've done found that out."  Avoiding Liana's playful swipe at him, he went on.  "I'll be lookin' forward to meetin' you again.  And to one of them steaks."

"You got it mate," Travis smiled, "I hope she's waitin' for me," Travis shook Ben's hand and kissed Liana's.
Kyle waited until Travis was at his side and followed him to the waiting taxi.

After they'd waited what seemed like hours, Ben finally told Liana, "It's time to cut this cake, darlin'. If I shake one more hand, I'm gonna hafta tell 'em I'm runnin' for office." He grinned at her.

" 'Sides, now that the weddin's over, I'm anxious to get to the weddin' night." His look at her made her blush right there in the crowd of neighbors and well-wishers.

Glad no one could hear them in the mob, she said, "Why Benjamin Justus Wade, we've already had one wedding night."

"Oh, I remember it well, darlin'." His eyes glittered at her as he took another sip of champagne, grimaced a little at the taste. "I loved every minute of it. But,you know, I gotta wonder- If the weddin' is even better the second time around, then maybe-"

She dropped her eyes, grinning herself. "I hope that's not better Ben. I might not live through it!"

Finally setting down his glass and picking up the knife, Ben said. "Okay, all- I know you're just about dyin' for a taste of this cake. And I'm lookin' real forward to dessert myself. So, Liana honey-"

Amid a flurry of people crowding around to see, and Ceri snapping pictures of them, Liana held the knife, with Ben's hand gently but firmly covering hers. As they stayed that way a moment for pictures, it ran briefly through Liana's mind that Ben had killed with a knife, with the same hand that he now held hers over this knife.

The same thing was going through Ben's mind, as he felt her soft hand under his. He felt no regrets. That had been during a time in his life when it had been the necessary and right thing to do. Hopefully, a time like that would never come again.

He smiled over at Liana. They chose a spot at the edge of the cake and brought the knife down. Everyone cheered. Putting a piece carefully on a plate, Liana handed it to Ben.

Ben had already planned what he would do. Earlier, he'd heard someone wondering if he would just shove it into Liana's mouth. Nope. He didn't want to mess up her hair or her dress--at least not until later tonight. Making a big show of picking up a fork, he turned it around and around between his thick fingers.

Then, he put it down, and, grinning at Liana, took a piece of the cake in his fingers. His eyes becoming serious and meaningful (to her, at least), he laid the piece of cake tenderly between her lips onto her tongue. Watching his eyes herself, she closed her lips around his fingers and sucked at them gently, taking his hand to hold them there a moment. His eyes darkened at the passion showing in hers.

Then, amid more cheering, she fed him a bite of cake. Finally, they exchanged sips of champagne from their glasses. Ben noticed, though, that Liana merely pretended to sip. Didn't actually take a drop. He wondered about that, but the thought was lost among the clapping and whistling.

He put his arm around her and hugged her close, leaning down to kiss her.

Arthur was enjoying his piece of wedding cake as Colin and Abby approached.

"Hello there, Colin, Abby... enjoying the reception, are you?"

"Yeah, actually we were thinking of heading out now, Arthur," Colin replied,

then leaned in and quietly added, "Think you might be able to find another way

back to the boarding house, Mate?"

Arthur was about to ask why, but then realized what Colin had in mind and flashed him a knowing smile.

"No worries, you two. I'm sure I can find my way back."

Abby, overhearing this, jumped in, "Oh, don't be silly, Arthur. Colin will be taking me back to the inn, so there's no reason we can't give you a ride back there as well."

Colin raised his eyebrows and looked quickly to Abby. "I am?" he asked, quite surprised and a hint of disappointment in his voice. "But I thought..."

Abby grinned, "You thought what? Oh....oh.... well, it IS only our second date... Don't expect that I'm just gonna let you have your way with me just yet. Seems your mind is a bit... um... hung-up still on a certain other gal."

Arthur blushed, "Um.... if you'll excuse me... I'll....umm... just get out of your way. No worries, I'll find my own way home. Appears you two might have a wee bit to... um... discuss." With that, he headed back off to find Amanda, hoping she or her aunt might give him a ride back instead.

Colin sighed, dropped his arm from around Abby's waist. He stared at her quietly for a moment, not knowing how to respond.

How could she think he was still interested in Kate? Yeah, Sid's little comments and snide remarks got to him, but did that

actually mean he still had a thing for Kate? Taking Abby's hand, he led her away from the crowd. Finally, he stopped, turned

towards her, holding her hands in his. "Abby, sweetheart, I am not still hung-up on Kate. That's way over, trust me. She's married,

for shits sake!"

"Doesn't mean you can't still have feelings for her, Colin. I'm not mad, just... practical and patient," she smiled at him and winked.

"Now, come on, I would like to actually MEET the bride and groom before we rush outta here."

Reluctantly, he nodded, and headed back towards where a crowd was seemed to gathered around, watching Millie, who apparently

had gone into labor.

After his chat with Colin and Abby, it was obvious to Arthur that he best find

another ride back to the boarding house. Scanning the party, he found Amanda

chatting with her aunt, Miss Peeg, and slowly made his way back over to them.

"Umm...excuse me, Amanda," Arthur said, hesitantly. "If it wouldn't be a bother...er...

I mean, since you'll be heading back there anyway... do you suppose, you might, er..."

"Arthur do you need a ride back to the boarding house?" Amanda had been watching Colin and Abby, "I have Johnny's car."

"Umm...yes, well, actually.... if it's no trouble, that is... I'd sure appreciate it, Amanda." He smiled sweetly at her, a bit embarassed he had to ask for a ride.

"No worries Arthur, besides you're good company," Amanda smiled at her friend.

"That's very nice of you to say, Amanda," Arthur replied, smiling. "You're quite good company yourself. Once Johnny is feeling up to it, maybe we can all get together down at the tavern."

"I can do better than that Arthur, once we get moved into the cottage I'd like to invite you to dinner one night. I'm not much of a cook but I do know how to make a few things really well. I know Johnny would be glad to have you for company not being able to get out he doesn't see many people...except for me of course,"Amanda giggled, "I'm sure he probably gets tired of me at times."

"Sounds lovely, Amanda," Arthur replied, grinning. "I don't get out much myself, other than work. I doubt Johnny could ever get tired of having a sweet girl like you around to care for him."

"That's awfully nice of you to say but I know a bloke needs other blokes, Andy has gotten so busy lately he hasn't had time to come up and talk with Johnny. You know with Lucy now at the bakery and Millie...well Millie hasn't be able to spend any time in the kitchen. I do know he's taking over the restaurant and hiring some help so thing should smooth out there. Don't expect anything as fancy as what Andy does when you come to my table but I promise not to poison you," laughed Amanda.

"Oh, I'm sure whatever you cook will be delicious, Amanda," Arthur told her, sincerely. "And please let Johnny know that if he'd like any company - other than yours, of course, just give me a ring. I'd be happy to come 'round for a visit."
