The Honeymooners Act III

Three days of walking about Adelaide and enjoying the scenery, eating enormous meals and drinking lots of wine had made Toni and Richie lethargic. They found a park and sat in the grass. Richie’s hand was bandaged from a problem with an elevator door, bruised and cut but not broken.

"Tomorrow it’s back to planes again," Richie stated

"I know but at least it’s the last trek. I will admit now that we should have just picked a place and went there for ten days; it’s hard to see it all in so short a time. I am glad we got to see what we did though."

"Yeah me too," he put his arm around her. "A couple of days on Bondi Beach and we’re done." He tugged at his bandaged hand.

"Have you enjoyed this at all Richie you make it sound like a dread?"

"I’m sorry if I sound that way, I have enjoyed it and being off with you, first time we’ve ever traveled together except for the trip over the ocean."

Toni laughed, "It’s been a learning experience for sure…what not to do next time."

"Half the clothes and toiletries for you and no horseback riding."

"No outback in the summer…it’s clouding up and going to rain we should start back."

"I saw on the TV the rainy season is starting."

It started a little sooner than they figured, "let’s get a taxi Toni."

Richie reached in his pocket for his wallet, patting his pockets he looked around where they had been sitting. "Toni my wallet’s gone."

"Maybe you left it in the restaurant let’s run its coming down harder now." Toni and Richie took off running across the bridge and out of the park. It was really raining now and they were both soaked.

Three blocks over they found the restaurant but no wallet. "I had it in here I paid for lunch."

"Richie maybe a pickpocket hit you up."

"Where’s your purse you can pay."

"At the hotel and I’m afraid we’re in for quite a walk Richie Roberts."

"Hey it’s not my fault I didn’t lose it on purpose."

Wet, bedraggled and tired they arrived at the hotel and asked for a key to their room, the desk clerk sent somebody to open their door and promised a new key in the morning. Richie told them not to bother they would be leaving in the morning. He spent the next hour on the phone cancelling all his credit cards. Toni emptied her purse she had 40.00. Richie looked at her.

"I thought you said you had money?"

"That’s money…but I do have…this." She pulled out an American Express card. "I never cancelled it when we moved here…now aren’t you glad."

Richie smiled then started giggling, "oh Toni what do you say when we get to Sydney we just drive home."

"Honey that’s the best idea I’ve heard lately," she joined him on the bed, "home sounds awfully good."
