Date Night

"Good afternoon, Glen Veterinary Surgery. How may I help you?"

"Hi, JJ, it's John."

"G'Day, Officer Biebe, how ya going?"

"I'm good, thanks. I'm calling about tonight."

"Hey, big boy, you're not backing out on me are ya?"

"No way. I'm just tied up for a bit. I wanted to let you know I'll be coming straight from work, so that you know not to do anything special."

"Oh...okay. I guess I should put my ball gown and tiara back in the box then," JJ sighed dramatically down the phone.

"Oh shit...you haven't gone to too much trouble have you?"

"Don't worry, John. I'll be happy to turn up in my jeans if it's okay with you. Easier to ride the bike that way."

John smiled at the thought of JJ in a pair of tight jeans. "Good, I'll try not to be late. Catch you later."

"Count on it, Officer," JJ smiled as she put down the phone. She looked around the surgery to make sure everything was tidy, checked the drug cupboard was locked, then made her way out of the building and headed off to Bobbie's place to get ready.

John looked up at the clock and sighed. The paperwork was taking much longer than he thought it would, and not for the first time he wondered why his deputies were always invisible when there was office work to be done. He put his pen in its holder and straightened up the pile of papers ready to pop them back in his 'pending' tray. He was happy to see that it was now slightly lower than it had been earlier in the day. He got up and stretched, groaning a little. He was an active man by nature and sitting behind a desk all day didn't wear well with him.

He went into the small bathroom and washed his face, then checked in the mirror. Running his hands quickly through his hair, he decided he would do. He locked up the office and walked towards the restaurant. He smiled when he saw JJ's Hog already parked outside.

JJ realised that John was nervous throughout the meal. She was certain the quiet man didn't usually drink as much as he seemed to be putting away. If he was drunk though, he was certainly hiding it well. They finally finished dessert and had a couple of cups of strong coffee, then JJ reluctantly stated that she had to get home. Ever the gentleman, John got up and helped her from her seat, then held her leather jacket for her. The effects of the wine didn't hit him until they got out in the cool night air.

"John, are you okay?"

"I'm fine," John replied, swaying a little. "I just need to get to the office, I left the truck there."

JJ watched as he took a couple of unsteady steps from her, then she reached out for his arm. "I'll take you home."

"No can do, darlin'. The truck is only insured for police personnel. Don't think writing myself a ticket would go down too well," he giggled.

"Okay then, I'll take you on the bike." She helped John get on the back of the bike, then snuggled on in front of him. She took hold of one of his hands and placed it in her jacket pocket, zipping it up tightly around his wrist. Then she did the same to the other one. Once she was sure he was safe behind her, she started the engine and moved off carefully.

She soon got to John's place and pulled up by his front door. "We're home, John."

There was no immediate reply. She took off her helmet and turned her head. John was asleep, his head resting on her shoulder. She gently unzipped her pockets and took out his hands, kissing one gently. John stirred and blinked.

"Where are we?" he asked sleepily.

"Outside your front door, mate." JJ replied. "You stay where you are while I get off, then I'll give you a hand."

John was about to say he was perfectly capable of getting off a bike, but when JJ got off he realised that her body was the only thing that had been keeping him from falling. He allowed her to help him to his door, then fumbled in his pocket for his key.

They staggered through the door and JJ asked where his bedroom was. He pointed out the right door with a grin, and was soon led to his bed. He wrapped his arms around JJ and pulled her down with him, kissing her gently.

"I think I like you, Jenifer Jayne."

"I think I like you too, John."

She kissed his cheek and smiled at him, then realised he was asleep. "Oh, bear, what are you like!"

She gently undressed him and tucked him in. She went to the kitchen and got the coffee machine ready for him, it was a state of the art machine with a timer, so she set it for 8:00am. Before she left, she wrote on a post-it note and placed it next to his alarm clock, which she noticed was set to 7:30. She kissed his rosebud lips, smiled, and left him sleeping peacefully.
