Nonnie’s ‘Family’ Arrives
Nonnie Scott parked her van behind her shop and opened the back door so her ‘family’ could emerge. Pippin was the first out running around on his short legs sniffing and hiking his leg marking his territory. Pippin was of unknown origins, a little brown and white dog with long silky hair and bright eyes and a tail that never stopped wagging. His mate, Wuss sat on the tailgate planning his first move. Wuss was a large ginger stripped Tom cat with golden eyes that missed nothing. He gracefully jumped from the van and with tail straight up walked over to the back door and waited for Nonnie to unlock it so he could see where she’d been spending so much time lately.
The interior was finished, the floors had been cleaned and polished to a high shine and the walls softly glowed in their pinkness. She was expecting her display pieces to be delivered today compliments of her uncle who let her have them with the promise they would never be sold. She thought while she was waiting she might pop over and see if the solicitor had a moment to look over her paperwork and advise her if there were any local requirement she should meet.
She unlocked the front door and leaving it open she walked across the street accompanied by Pippin and Wuss.
“Miss Peeg if I remember correctly,” she smiled entering Richie Robert’s office.
“Oh Miss Scott how good to see you,” Miss Peeg stood up and noticed the two animals sitting at attention outside the door, “are they yours?”
“Oh yeah, that’s Pippin and Wuss I wasn’t sure if they would be allowed in so I told them to sit and be nice.”
“They are adorable,” Miss Peeg smiled peering over her glasses.
“I’ve brought my paperwork over for Mr. Roberts to have a look, he said anytime.”
“Yes, well he’s not in at the moment but I will be happy to give it to him when he returns.”
“I don’t think there’s anything for me to worry about unless there’s some local law I am unaware of.”
“We are all waiting for your shop to open Miss Scott, when the sign went up everybody started talking about it.”
“Give me a week to get it all organized and stocked and the doors will be opened, I’m as anxious as you are,” she laughed.
After talking with the delightful Miss Peeg Nonnie walked back to her shop to find Mr. Jessup inside.
“Looking for something, sorry I’m not open for business yet.” She side stepped him followed by her boys.
“There are animals in your shop, that’s not allowed you know.”
“I don’t sell food Mr. Jessup, there is no law that I know of that prevents them from being in MY shop under MY supervision.”
He pursed his lips, “when are you going to get something in here to sell?”
“I’m opening in a week, I’m sure you’ll see the crowds and know the date and time, perhaps they might even stop by your store for an ice cream.” She smiled broadly.
“You’re not planning a big…opening are you?”
“Clowns, balloons and trick dogs…anymore questions?”
He left in a huff and Nonnie couldn’t help but laugh, oh this was going to be fun.
Wuss’s eyes were mere slits as he watched the man walk out of the door.
